Question Hub leak at 66K?

2006 TSX, 66,xxx
I noticed that there is some fluid leaking out onto my rims and rotors. I'm only at 66K miles. I took it to Gillman acura and they said it might be the hubs. I only see the fluid on the front two wheels. Has anyone ever had this happen?

The rotors were replaced recently and yes the fluid has been leaking before I changed them. I have pictures of the oem rotors with this fluid on it too. I'm thinking the fluid may be power steering fluid because it is lowering in the reservoir. I haven't taken it in for the recall and I do feel a vibration through the steering wheel on the highway for sure, sometimes on small roads.

I sincerely doubt that it's PS fluid. I can't imagine there is any way a PS fluid leak will travel down your driveshafts, under/over the CV boots and through the hub. It just doesn't seem physically possible.

That being said, it does look like it is a burnt up low-viscosity fluid. I'm not sure what type of lubricant they use in the wheel bearings but I imagine it is a low-viscosity lubricant. It's strange that both front wheels are exhibiting this and the fluid is coming from where the wheel mates with the rotor hats considering the wheel bearing sits behind everything. Quite the mystery for sure.

yeah, that was sticking to my head. I don't believe it's power steering fluid anymore.
I'm agreeing that it may be grease from the hub bearing

Keep in mind your 2006 has an Acura 6 year/70,000 mile coverage on powertrain items. The front wheels are the driven wheels and thus the bearings might, just might, be a covered item. It's worth checking out...

Acura's own site shows hubs covered under powertrain on 2006's (http://owners.acura.com/Documentum/W...s/BWL33424.pdf see page 14), so I'd give it a try!

I brought it back to gillman to have the power steering hose replaced; recall and they did look at the rotors. They found no problems with the hubs and they assume that it may just be water and brake dust. Has anyone else ever seen this? I'm going to take it to sterling mccall for a second opinion.

Get the second opinion, document both with dealership work orders, take more photos, especially if they have cleaned it and it reoccurs, and then store it all where you can find it again. Then, if the hubs fail, you can try for a covered repair as you documented the problem before the warranty expired. In such a case, Federal Law requires them to cover it if you documented the failure that occured after expiration before expiration.

Does it wipe off with a dry cloth or do you need a cleaner to remove the stain? It looks like the old rotors left alot of rust stains and it looks like water/rust mixture.

My 06 TSX has about +65,XXX, I will check my front rotors out also.

I'm with mrgold. It is likely that the old rotors left the rust behind where you wounted the new rotors and after spinning and getting water in there it's probably slinging. It really does look like rust in the pic.

I actually took the rim off today to check it out and I tried wiping it off with a wet towel. It looks like its just rust. Thanks guys! I thought I was going to spend an arm or a leg on this.

its cleaned off now!

I also saw something weird on my tires. Is this normal? I see it only on the inner side of the rims. Looks like rough small crackles
