HID Issue - Normal to Pink to Out

I searched around quite a bit and didn't find my exact situation. One of my headlights when first turned on starts at it's normal white/blue color, then starts turning more towards pink almost immediately and then turns completely off after about 10 - 15 minutes. From what I've read, it might be the igniter and might be the bulb.

I did have one of my headlights replaced under warranty because of condensation and the other they just "fixed". I've also read that it may be because of water/moisture.

Any additional feedback would be greatly appreciated. I have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow but it's 80 miles away and I hate to pay them to just change a bulb.

Thanks!

just a bulb.

I've read this about 20 times in this and the other site.

classic case of the bulb at the end of it's life.

I always wondered, so how much does one of these "bulbs" cost? What about the whole assembly(I guess that is the 'ignitor' and the 'bulb')?

I know i never want to have to replace one, but are you talking $50 or $500?

depends on where u get it. if you look on ebay for 4300k D2S bulbs, you can probably find cheap generic bulbs so around $50. if you go to the dealer and get OEM bulbs, it will probably be > $100 each. Not sure about ignitors/ballasts. you can check prices on ebay though.

All prices are in the above link for OEM.

you're rolling the dice with aftermarket.

looks like $187 per bulb for the OEM HIDs.

Well, I had the appointment set so I went ahead and went to the dealer. On the phone he said they couldn't know anything unless they saw it. So when I went in, after about 45 minutes, they said for $100 they can pull the bumper and check what is wrong and it's probably just a bulb and they can then replace it for $200. I asked if they even looked at anything with it and they said no.

So I drove 160 miles round trip to have them tell me what they could have told me over the phone. And to top it off, they had a new '09 TSX there (actually about 6 or 7 of them) and I got a salesperson to ask for a test drive. They guy said no way unless you agree to purchase it for sticker price today. That they didn't want to put any miles on them and that they were selling for thousands over sticker in the "big" cities.

Anyway, so now I'm just going to buy two new bulbs and change them myself. Not sure if I should stick with the OEM ones for $150 each or go with a Kaixen 6000K set for $150. Any thoughts?

If I recall correctly, OEM bulbs are Philips bulbs:

$69.99 here:

I just bought a set of two brand new in package Phillips 4300K D2S bulbs off eBay for $86.88 w/ free shipping.

Shipping via priority mail to Wisconsin from Chicago so I hope to get them soon

I called around to all the auto parts stores in my area and none of them had them in stock. They ranged from $94 - $187 each and all of the stores would have had to order them.

First, that's a load of crap.
Thousands over sticker for a new TSX?

:BS:

Who is he kidding?

And I'd say go Kaixen. I have a set of brand new OEMs I don't use.
I swapped them for Kaixens and don't ever plan on swapping back.

just thought I'd add...

just called Acura of Manhatten, no wait, no over price, plenty in stock.
most all colors and transmissions available.
if they don't have what you want, they can get it pronto in less than a week.

they said they have some room to work on the price too, but not much.

NY is the biggest city in this country, so that guy is for sure full of it.

okay, sorry, thread hijack over.

I was about to go this route when I ran across my deal on eBay. I've never had any complaints about the brightness of my lights. As it is, when my wife drives any other car she complains that their headlights "don't work" compared to ours.

Thanks for all the great feedback

And yeah, the sales guy at the dealership was a real jerk. I won't go back and I'm going to write them a letter about my disappointment and cc Acura Customer Service.
