Unhappy HID Bulb Failure!

I did a search but could not find anyone else with a failure. I noticed today that the driver's HID is a really dim purple, pink colour. The warranty manual says lights are not covered after 1 year. With the prices you are talking about, I'm thinking this could be expensive.

Anyone else have to replace the HID yet? I have 35000K on the car and didn't expect to have to replace a light yet. Seems premature to me. I was thinking about aftermarket and self installation but am concerned about replacing HIDs.

Has anyone done this yet. I'd appreciate any advice.

You have 4300K on the car..............i'm sure you can find D2S bulbs on ebay for pretty cheap. You might wanna also replace both at the same time.

Warranty covers only the first year for HID bulbs?

I thought it was until the 4yr/50k Mark.

hehe... now because of your statement we are going to get a bunch of readers equating color temp to actual temp (as in celcius or fahrenheit)... mark my words.

relating that to C or F??? No... just to K, which stands for Kelvin - the basic unit of temperature in the International System of Units

So an HID bulb is more expensive than an "ordinary" bulb, but it's not in the range of hundreds or thousand $ for the complete HID unit, correct?

The user manual says that lights are covered only for a year. It does distinguish between HID or halogen.

I talked to the dealer today and the service dept. thinks it may be the inverter causing the problem because the bulb still comes on. For a split second it looks normal, then gets dim and turns a purple pink colour. Anyone have a HID go yet? Does it burn out like a regular bulb, with no light at all, or does it still burn with decreased light and change of colour?

I don't want to buy another bulb if I don't need to.

I had the same problem. My drivers side bulb started out with a purple tint and then went to a consistant pink tint. The bulb was replaced under warranty but the car was only 2 months old.

The owners manual warns about not replacing the bulb yourself because of the high voltage involved but as long as the bulb has been turned off for at least 10-15 mins to allow any stored voltage to die (I don't know if this is a factor with HID systems but just in case) and is cool enough then it shouldn't be a big deal.

Knowing how to physically get it out is another thing because it doesn't look to accessible in that area.

When my bulb was changed under warranty I waited probably about 30-45mins tops so it can't be that big a job
