hearing a weird popping sound
hearing a weird popping sound
when I put the car in reverse and cut the wheel to turn out of my garage in the morning when i leave to go to school. it seems to be coming from the front, i think driver's side. kinda sounds like something snapped in half. any idea what this could be?
on a side note, about a month ago i noticed that my driver front wheel was leaking break fluid b/c the hose wasn't connected tightly but the leak was fixed and last time i had it in for service about 2 weeks ago, nothing was noted on the service report about the leak coming back and that everything in that area looked good.

CV joint, probably.
Edit: I guess I could have included a little more clarification:
A popping or clicking noise when turning. This almost always indicates a worn or damaged outer CV joint. A quick way to verify this condition is to put the car in reverse, crank the steering wheel to one side and drive the vehicle backwards in a circle (check the rearview mirror first!). If the noise gets louder, it confirms the diagnosis and the need for a new joint or replacement shaft assembly.

DUN DAA NAA NAAAAA!!!! Here I am! LOL.
Actually what it sounds like is either the ABS bump thing that our cars do but I don't know if it does it in reverse (like an ABS self-test @ 7mph or 10km/h I believe).
If its not that, and it just started out of the blue, what it could be is the brake rotors have a lot or rust from their overnight lack of use, and once you start backing out, the pads break the rust off of the rotor, sometimes causing a noise.
If that doesn't seem to be the problem, the CV joint test that Jaymon takes a few minutes to try and is pretty accurate.

Missed the edit window:
Also check with the shop that fixed the leaking caliper to ensure they bled any potential air in that line, from the system. An air bubble could potentially cause the single pop upon first braking.
Also check for any deformed or shifted pad backing plate, seized slider pin(s), or shims on each side of the pad that might have shifted or not been installed properly or at all.
