Gas question to all gurus:

The general specs 2004 TSX stated that ' ** Gasoline with an octane number lower than 91 may be used, with reduced performance'.
I have my TSX for 2 years and used only premium gas, but the last time I did try to use a regular gas, result: did not feel any difference in performance
even when car was loaded with all 4 passengers.
My wife's Honda Accord 2003 EX 4 cyl uses regular and to be honest I don't feel these extra 40 HP in TSX at any way when I'm swathing
cars. Both cars perform extremely well (Honda's ride a little bit more comfortable while TSX has a better controlled ride with more stable cornering.
Anyway, any advice if I can continue to use regular gas in TSX with no harm to the engine ?
Thanks in advance.

I notice the differnce, not a drastic differnence, but non the less I can just tell the car is running a little smother and fluid. I think alot has to do with where you get your gas too. Busy places have fresher gas. But I also notive better milage as well, which I think basically offsets the extra cost

Lower octane gas has a tendency to cause pinging. To prevent this, the engine has to retard the timing so that the pinging does not cause severe damage. The TSX motor is a high compression motor and should use premium gasoline whenever possible. If you insist on using regular gas and something happens to the motor, rest assured that your warranty claim will most likely be denied because you failed to follow the manufacturer recommendation.

And seriously, if you spent the money on the car, the money you're going to save from skimping on the gas is hardly going to make that much of a difference. It's only a few bucks a month, honestly.

I'd say, you absolutely should use 91 octane or higher.

Think about it this way too, lower octane fuels can pre-ignite under high compression (knock), so garry57, use the good stuff.

Well, I said whenever possible because sometimes during travel through the midwest, there are some places where you can't get 91 octane.

There have been many posts on this, try a search and you'll find lots of info. The general consensus, though, is to use the octane specified for the best results. By using lower octane, you are only reducing your gas mileage, and therefore not getting the benefit you think you are by paying a few cents less per gallon. You bought a car that is supposed to take premium gas - live with it or buy another Accord. The supposed cost savings are so low anyway when you figure yearly costs, it's just not worth it to possibly screw up the engine to save $50. C'mon, it's not a big deal.
