Front Bearings gone

So after 2 visits with 2 different techs, my sound coming from my front end is the bearings failing(which i told them from the start ,which they almost sent me home saying it was nothing. One tech acually said don't worry about the sound it is nothing and i quote "if i were you i wouldn't do anything about it". It was very loud so to say it was nothing and ignore it was out of the question , i will be bringing this up with the manager. Yeah i may look like a young guy with spikey hair that seem like he knows nothing ( i have a degree in aerospace science and i am a Air Traffic Controller for the past 3 years)This is a '05 with only 89000 km's around 45K miles. So it goes in for all new bearings and is covered by warrenty. So hopefully this will get rid of the sound. And maybe improve there customer service. Sorry for the rant i just know some of you people on here has delt with this before.

Try taking it to another dealer and see what they say.

So how did they find out it was the front bearing? How was it diagnosed?

I drove it with a tech in the car for about 15-20 mins, until the bearings heated up and the grease broke down to make the loud sound "woo woo" sound. He sat in different spots in the car to figure out where it was coming from. When the had the car for the day all they did was drive it for 2 mins on side streets and was "reving" it in the shop. Well after they told me that, I said that makes no sense if it is the bearings you should know that you have to heat them up by driving for at least 15 mins (i knew this and told them that b/c thats when it happens with me) and that reving it won't get you any results. So this will be the last time I deal with this dealership after owning 2 Acura's now i have lost faith in them completely, I guess i will have to suck it up and drive the extra 25mins to the other one across the city.

This sounds exactly what I'm experiencing for the last 4-5000 miles. I have an '04 with 107,000 miles. Did you get an estimate on how much it would cost to get it repaired/replaced?

So you're hearing noise from the rear?

I have no idea on the cost mine is still under warranty. I thought it sounded like it was coming from the rear, but thats is only b/c how is vibrates in the car, you have to get someone to sit in all the spots to hear it. When i sat in the back i could not hear the sound, only when sitting up front, so thats how we figured it out.

Can this be attributed to normal wear and tear? I've never heard of wheel bearings going out around 100,000 miles in a car that hasn't been driven too aggressively? Could it be a design flaw? Any explanation as to why this might have happened (prematurely in my not-so-knowledgable opinion of the matter)?

This happend to me at only 85000 kms (40K miles) They said it is probably from all the potholes around here. Because the dealership said they get a few ever year due to potholes. They said its very uncommon for it to happen with so little km`s.

There is always a possibility that there is a defect in the wheel bearings, but very unlikely. The major cause of them wearing prematurely is hitting curbs when parking. I've heard people time and time again complaining about this and 95% of the responses have been "Yes I have hit the curbs when parking"
Major potholes can cause this issue too but at that point the wheel bearing is the least of your concerns.

I owned an Integra and an Acccord that went over 120k miles on the original bearings. Not once did I hit a curb and they were still good, even with hitting some little potholes. You just need to pay attention to the road.

Come live in a Prairie Canadian city and try to dodge potholes, it is next to impossible. Anyone that has will back me up, i do pay very close attention sometimes you just don't have a option. With such extreme weather seasons and huge temp changes roads get bad quickly and potholes are pretty much everywhere.

Not sure how bad the roads up there are but I live in Pennsylvania and we have the worst roads in the country.

Yeah, i had my friend ride in the back, switching from left to right, he said it was coming from the right rear b/c sound was more pronounce and he could feel more vibration from the rear right side.

Just got the car back from getting the bearings fix, and wow what a difference, i have no more vibrations at all from the stearing wheel, and it feels more "planted" to the road, esp. when i do 90% highway , those higher speeds were vibrating the crap out of my hands.

My car started leaking and the tranny fluid was noticeable on the ground so I check it out was told its the driveshaft seal and possibly the driveshaft was warped for the reason of shaking but then after this was fixed it happened again after 3 days the seal was no good. I tested tranny and it seemed the differential drive in the tranny was no good so I replaced the whole tranny with a lifetime warranty and yes its a 5at -trip-tronic
