i just got a tsx, now has 3k miles. its an automatic w/ navi. but already i think the car has problems. after i start the ignition, i shift to drive, and about 10 feet into driving, i suddenly hear this ugly scraping sound, usually when the gear's shifting from 1st to 2nd. this happens about 60% of the time. did this ever happen to anyone? or can anyone let me know what the problem might be?

 

It is the ABS check performed almost everytime you start the car. The longer the car sits, the more likely you are to hear it.

 

hm, is it normal that it sounds like a big scrape? i usually let my car warm up for 3-4 minutes before going anywhere, but i drive it pretty often and i keep thinking the engine's being damaged.

 

Unfortunately it is normal. There's no damage, just the annoyance factor... Warm up is irrelevant, as it will only test once you pull away.

 

There is a good chance that this is your problem, but it wouldnt hurt to ask your dealership about it.
