Driver's seat shift

Has anyone noticed their drivers seat shift slightly when cornering? More so when turning left, I can feel my seat shift slightly as if there is a little play in the tracks. Any turn in the city will do it. It's just getting a little annoying.

Also, my "side airbag off" light has come on an off a couple times while driving. At first I thought it was because my passenger was leaning forward, but I can't duplicate it; I don't know even know if there are any sensors for that.

I'll call the dealer today; just thought I would get some opinions.

BTW, for those of you not impressed with the gas mileage of the TSX, it's much better than my Dodge Ram that now sits in the garage (instead of being my commuter) because of the stellar 15MPG on a good day!

Thanks.

Sorry Noob try a regarding the seat problem. I've had my track replaced and the problem remains. Others have had it fixed, the dealer should be able to fix the problem.

I find the seat shifts forward a tad with hard stops. The dealer here claims it is "normal" in that other TSX cars do it... but I have no idea if the designers would think this is normal.

Does the seat launch you forward in a hard stop? Have to wait and see!

have no idea what you're talking about. i feel like the seats are bolted in to the frame.

about the side airbag, its perfectly normal. the sensors are really sensitive. the light goes off when the passenger is sitting in a position that will make the side airbag more harmful than useful in a side crash. also, if you have something rather large that touches the back support, it will go off. hope this helps.

Mine does it slightly when I have to stop quickly, however I had a loaner TSX when they were putting my mp3 player in where it was more obvious

I have the same problem on my driver's seat. When cornering, my driver's side seat shifts slightly to the point where I can feel it. Mine only happens side to side, I haven't noticed it while braking. It really puts a damper on my sporty mood when I'm on curvey roads.

IOKUA, let me know if you or dealer have fixed this issue. Thanks!

TSXChef,

Well, my dealer wasn't too helpful. They say they found a loose bolt and tightened it which actually seems to have helped a tiny bit. However, my seat still shifts slightly. I haven't had time to look into it myself; my experience with dealers is that if they can't find the problem, I'm better off spending my time on it so I can show it to them then give them my car for days............if I figure it out I'll post the problem.

Check this thread out:
http://www.acura-tsx.com/forums/show...&threadid=6506

It sounds to me like a build tolerance issue with the seat rails. I may have to take my seat out to troubleshoot it.

I definitely agree that it puts a damper on the sporty driving...

Sorry I can't be more helpful at this point.

I think this is a design flaw more than a manufacturing defect. Every TSX I've been in has had this problem especially under really heavy braking. I think the bushing in the seat rail is too small so it makes for a very sloppy design. Someday when I have some time on my hands I'll take it apart and figure out what's going on. If a bigger one is required I can machine a bunch for the people that want one.

Mine does the same thing, but up until now considered it only as a curiosity (design related) and never realized it might be a something that could be fixed. If it's something that can be adjusted, I'll have Acura take care of it the next time I take it in for something else (e.g., scheduled maintenance).

Driver's Seat - Endless Problems

Oh boy - did this posting touch a nerve! Bought the car in October. Bottom front plastic panel under driver's seat was popped apart. The dealer snapped it together. Popped apart again. Service department was to order a new piece. They never did. Waited for the part to come in and get a service appt. Put new piece in. Popped apart in four days. Seat started shifting left to right. It got really bad. Brought it back in again. They told me that the technician "forgot a couple of screws." Also that it was normal for the TSX seat to move a bit. The loane car never did, and my old Accord never did! The plastic panel popped apart again next day, and then the seat was not only sliding left to right, but now front to back. Then they tried to tell me it was an "upholstery problem." The guy who sold me the car was ready to kill the service guys for this one! I called the dealership owner who asked why they hadn't called in the area technician - good question. They insured me that the entire seat would be replaced. So I brought it in again for the fourth time. This was in February. The next morning, the plastic was broken off again. I drove the car to the dealer to speak with the owner - not the service managers. The area technician/rep for Acura happened to be there. He said that there are no bolts to this piece, it was all clips - so there couldn't be any "missing screws" and that it wasn't an upholstery problem. Needless to say, within an hour a new piece was put in and the shifting was alleviated. He thought that the plastic piece was not formed correctly, as he showed me where it broke. It has been almost 3 weeks, and the seat is just beginning to shift forward on a short stop. Now seeing everyone's posts, I think Acura has got to know this is an ongoing problem. I love the car, but this has been horrendous!!

ok, driver seat rails replaced and no longer shifts, the front windshield water sprayer has been readjusted to spray proportionally. Front dashboard rattle did not get fixed, technician couldnt find nor hear it (well no shit, it was warm already when he drove the car).

yesterday i went to pick up the car, i had this huge scratch on my left front HID, and another scratch done during the replacement of the driver seat on the left B-pillar... god damn morons

Kevin - when they replaced my entire seat the second time, I got the car back with an inch long chunk of paint missing. They said I never noticed it because my car was dirty. I am totally anal, and with the car being in the shop so much, I inspect every part of that body. I just brought it to a body shop, and the quote was $480 to do the whole door over. This service dept stinks - the worst! Not only could they not fix the sliding seat/breaking plastic pieces, they ruined the door paint too! And the car is only 4 months old!

Same problem on left turns. Can't tell if it's a
problem with the seat's heating coil or with the track. I'll be taking the car in for the 7500 mile
maintenance in a couplle of weeks.

I had the same problem, took it to Tustin Acura for check ups. Turned out the problem was caused by "seat rails" and some screws being lose. They replaced the "seat rails" on the driver seat, scratched my driver B pillar while working at it, but the seat shifting was fixed. If any of you is having a hard time finding why the seat shifts, just tell ur service tech that it has to do with something loose with the seat rails. Hope this helps.

My dealer told me it was a very common problem of the TSX. They ordered and installed a new seat base. The problem is gone now.

My seat doesn't shift on the rails, but it feels like the cushion is shifting side-to-side a little on the corners sometimes.

I'm still dealing with this issue. I've had the seat rails replaced once already - that fixed a problem with the seat "grinding" when moving fwd/back, but not the sliding. Had it worked on by the dealer twice more, the last time they replaced the entire recliner (seat back). Really not sure why but I figured what the heck, it might work. When I picked it up, the sliding was WORSE than when I'd dropped it off. So I raised a bit of a stink with the service dept. It's possible they misunderstood what I was complaining about before, but that's not the case now. I had the service mgr sit in the car while I demonstrated the problem. He was very apologetic and eager to resolve this issue. So we'll see.

They've ordered a new seat base now. (Again, sounds like the same parts as the rails to me, but I don't really know). They have promised to get it fixed to my satisfaction next visit. I sure hope so. It's not a huge issue, and I know it is solveable, I just want it done right once and for all.

My car does the same thing, I am afraid to get it fixed, seems the dealer will only do more damage to other stuff trying to fix it. Maybe we will see a recall in due time.

Not much to F up if you ask me. I've posted the part#'s and work done to resolve my seat shift issue. print it out and take it to your dealer. I'm sure he'll do a fine job. No need waiting for a recall that may never come.

The dealer replaced the driver's seat rails 4 days ago. No apparent seat shift since.

Well, tomorrow we give it one more go. Got the call today that the new parts were in. Before they start, I'll check the part numbers against the ones you posted asp_datalok10 and confirm they are about to do the right thing. I'd very much like to get this annoyance cured.

I picked up my car from my dealer Tuesday (they were attempting to fix dash rattles for the 3rd time) and I got the car back with a noticeable dent above the passenger door and one on the roof. I inspected the car before I took it, so I left it there to be repaired... but how hard is it to work on a car and NOT dent or scratch it while doing so?

Moving Drivers Seat

I am just coming up on 10,000 miles and the driver "seat shifting" has increased noticeably in the last two months. Even when just moving the seat forward/aft there is a "choppy" movement Having read all of the complaints from owners I'm surprised that a recall from Acura has not happened. I bought mine in Mission Viejo, Ca and will see how the dealer handles it at the first check-up. Acura wake up!

I've the same problems as you guys. My driver seat moves when taking corners and I can hear the grinding noise when moving back and forward. It's good to see some of the comments so I can tell my dealrship service Dept of the fixes. I'm taking the car in next week.

I had my driver seat shift fixed by the dealer. My case was left-right movement when cornering. Initially, the dealer ordered a new track assembly for mine (took about 1.5 weeks for delivery) and installed it, however, they noticed that shift problem was still there. They told me that bolt/screw area wasn't lining up properly so they had to order a special piece (took 3 days).

In the end, they did fix my shift problem and they were very good about it. The dealer took the time to do a test to see if the problem was eliminated for sure, which I did appreciate. Now I'm about 4000+ miles since my fix, so far very good.

If I remember, I'll try to find out exactly what they did so you/they can save some time debugging...

Lasr week the Mission Viejo,CA dealership agreed with the complaint about the driver seat rails. Part was ordered and tomorrow they are installing it (and a free loaner, a TSX). No problems or hassels. So far the dealership wins high praise.

this seems like a dead thread and shows that alot of you are stuck with the shifting seat problem. at around 7k mi my seat was shifting about 1 inch every time i pressed the brake and i could sit in the car and shift it up. anyhow they changed the track... it was great once i received got it back. well in the past 10K miles in the car i move my seat up and back to the regular position constantly. (lunch w/ coworkers and clients) i have to move it up so people can sit behind me.. i forget to mention i'm 6'2" and weigh about 275... but yeah i move it up and down all the time... well now the shifting is back not as severe but it moves... my TL with 115K miles never moved.. my wife's MDX with 30K mi doesn't move... my brothers $16K Civic doesn't move... but yet my $30K TSX moves! it shifts very little not as much as when i got the track replaced... but it seems like the track is wearing out from usage... i';m totally pissed and i think it is time i take the car to a diferent acura dealer... that might help??? any other ideas????
