Down Shifting problem?
I just bought an 06 5speed automatic TSX. When I am slowing down on the highway or off ramp the RPM'S shoot up and then drop really quickly and jerks a little bit. Is this something to be worried about? Has this happened to anyone else? Realllly worried.
It's normal. The transmission is mirroring what most would probably do with a manual transmission (while slowing down fairly quickly, especially going down an incline). It downshifts, then it unlocks the torque converter to mirror either depressing the clutch or a shift into neutral (this is why the engine rises in RPM's as it downsfifts, then can fall rapidly too). Personally, I count on it/use it and think it's pretty cool.
Dirty Injectors
I had a similar problem but not exactly like that. When letting go of the pedal for slowing down, the rpm revs up and sticks around 2400 for a few seconds. It would only drop once I apply the brake to slow the car down, this made the car feels as if the tranny was hunting. This got to the point where my gf started to noticed it too while sitting in the passenger seat. However, a colleague told me that I might have dirty injectors which causes the rpm to hang. I would've never thought of that but since he races karts for a hobby so I decided to give it a try
After using some Lucas injector cleaners, the problem disappeared.
And yes, I use 91 octane minimum.
