door closing sound?

Wondering if any of you 06 tsx owners noticed this. When I shut the drivers door, and the passenger door is closed, it gives a nice solid CHUNK. Just like it should. But if the wife has her door open, it sounds VERY cheap, almost like the door skin is "fluttering"? The passenger door sounds good (chunk) whether or not the drivers door is open or closed.

Its the only complaint I have. Other than the fact that, from the passenger seat, the wife can see the speedometer, LOL.

yea, they are trying to make the cars lighter. But dont take that as being the car isn't as safe. The lighter car will turn faster and stop faster too. Also, there will be less energy to absorb upon impact. If you want a consistant solid feel. Dynamat the doors. I did that to my 00 4runner and the thing sounded as solid as a rock when i closed it. Rode a little quieter too.

A little thing called air pressure is causing this...

I was thinking the same thing, except, why would it only affect the drivers side door and not the passanger door?

Different perspective (seating position relative to door being closed) ? That would be my guess.

I agree with the air pressure theory. However, you can slam either door, and they will sound like an empty tin can. Close them lightly, and it sounds like the "engineered sound" they put all that time into. Generally heard best outside the car.

After 1 and a half years, my driver down closing sound is quite tinny. All the other 3 doors are still sold sounding. I think because no one else rides in my car that the driver's door rubber seals are now softer than the other doors.

I dynamat-ed all my doors last year and no longer get this tinny sound, although it doesn't sound solid like german cars, it's pretty solid sounding esp when compared to the sound I heard on the TSX loaners and the ones in the showroom.

I should add, before the dynamat, you'll hear the tinny sound whenever you have ANYTHING in the door pocket, or when the window is opened (even if you just open it a little). Esentially, it's caused by vibrations in the door skin, echoed and emplified in the empty space between the door skin and the plastic door panel. I think insulating the inside of the plastic panel's would help too.

I once looked at the inside of an A6's door, and I immediately realized why they sound so solid. The door skin was heavily insulated, and the plastic door panels had a foam baffle kinda thing that covers the whole inside of the panel. That makes it sound really solid as opposed to the 'engineered sound' which is achieved by having 'specially' desinged rubber seals both on the door and the chasis on our TSX's.

That makes sense, the door seal method really only works when there's air pressure created by the cockpit. When I install my f/r speakers, I'll add some dynamat -- great suggestion, thanks!

Yup, I was thinking air pressure too, but only from the one side? Oh well, I'll do the dynamat thing, and see what happens. Thanks guys!

I've started noticing the sound your talking about this week. And it seems to no matter if windows/doors are open or closed.

That's the beauty of this board. You read about it and then, all of a sudden, you start listening for it until you find it. I never knew I needed a Comptech swaybar, or aftermarket intake, or a reflash. Heaven knows I don't a Comptech header either, but, doggone it I want one now.
