Cricket rattle FOUND & FIXED!
Cricket rattle FOUND & FIXED!
(This is a post from the end of my previous thread. Perhaps this will help you should you be suffering from the same. Below is the answer.)
Yee Haw, it is fixed! The weather conditions here in MO were perfect this week for the rattle to be acting up. We located the "cricket" rattle in my dash and my dealer got it this time! The following is the laymans explanation for the fix.
1. We discovered that the rattle was comin from the bottom of the navi unit area where it connects to the top tray in the console. It was tough to locate because it was inside the console.
2. When the navi unit is removed apparently there are a couple of "points" (I understood this to be "pins") that stick out upon which navi unit rests. When they began to closely examine the area they noticed that one of the "points" had been rubbing against the unit. During cold weather the contraction caused enough space for this to rattle. They also said that there are a couple of clips that hold this down. Perhaps they are not designed with a need to hold the unit from shifting; they just need to hold it down.
3. The dealer insulated both points/pins and now it is tight and without any "cricket" rattle.
I have tested the car extensively without a single rattle for more than 24 hours now in cold/wet conditions this week.
Finally, the service manager at Acura of Springfield (Missouri) knows the skinny on the whole thing. Perhaps you can have your dealer speak with them if necessary to help you rid your TSX of your own "cricket" rattle.
Now I am really loving my TSX again!
