Crappy Battery?

Crappy Battery?
Died after 62K??? When I just turn the radio on I can here it, next click on keys to turn on air conditioner, etc. causes radio to go silent. AC turns on, but car does not register the fuel gauge and shows tank as being empty. Unable to then start the car and I get a repeated clicking sound and the interior lights flicker in harmony with the clicking sound. Is this something other than a battery issue?

I would disconnect the battery. Clean the battery posts, then clean all ends of both battery cables. The starter connection is under the intake manifold, so it may be a pain to access. I am not sure if you can easily access that connection.

From the symptoms you have listed, it's either a dead battery or loose/corroded battery connection(s). When you turn your key to ON position radio plays, but as soon as you turn to START position without starting the car the radio dies because of insufficient power to power on the cooling fans since you left your A/C on. With that said, there might not be enough power going to the fuel pump and sending unit to register the gauge. Lastly, the clicking sounds you hear when you actually start the car is a classic sign of a bad battery.

Well it's pretty simple if you have sockets and wrenches. Remove the battery holding bracket, then undo both battery terminals loosely enough slide them up and out of the posts. Don't let the terminals touch each other. Do a quick search on google or youtube on how remove car battery if that helps. I don't think it's the starter.

This may be the clue. And did you try to jump start the car, or just try charging the battery? You may have a weak battery (which are pretty much effected by age, mileage really has nothing to do with how long an automotive battery will last), but I'm inclined to think it might be a bad starter. You don't state what year your car is, but we're starting to get reports of bad starters here. It wouldn't hurt to replace the battery (and I agree that there are a number of good replacement batteries out there that aren't Optima), but I'd be prepared to replace the starter too.

Unfortunately, I really don't have any technical assistance here, but add me to the list of people who got a crappy Optima yellow top battery. I bought it in Jan 2010, and it died a few weeks ago during a 100 degree day.
I should have listened to the other posters in that a battery is a battery - don't overthink it, or overspend on it.

Does'nt matter how many miles when it died. The question I ask is how old is the battery. After 5 years, you can expect a battery to die at anytime. If you got 6-7 years out of it, you were lucky.
And yes, just buy an Interstate or Die Hard battery. No need to go crazy spending money on Optimas.
