Thumbs down Condensation in Headlights

I am one of the unfortunate people who has condensation in my headlight due to manufacturing defect. Good thing I brought my car to the dealer, and they were willing to order a new one for me and install it for free, even though there was no trace of condensation on the lens when I brought it in. I think this is the third instance in this forum where there is condensation in the headlight, so I think it's a really rare occurence. If this happens to you let your dealer know so they will take care of it right away

The service in Pasadena (California) was top notch ..unlike my previous experience in Alhambra where the service was terrible

Glad to here you got it taken care of so easily. Props to Pasadena Acura for knowing how to treat customers.

they should replace it unless they're a crappy dealership

After washing my TSX for the second time I noticed a water drop on the inside of my driver side headlight...WTF!
Also, there is water collecting at the top inside edge of the headlight...
I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones...

My headlight (passenger side) was replaced free of charge. The dealer gives you a brand new headlight, not just seal it up. Funny, when I took the car in there was no condensation (the lens was not fogged), but they said they'll replace it after they inspected it.

My driver side headlight now officially has condensation on the inside... :thumbsdn:

I hope the dealership is issuing improved versions and not just a replacement that will fog up also...

Time for JDM headlights?

Unless the headlights have been modified in any way, they are covered under your existing warranty to replace them. It is normal that the silicone gel that is used to seal the halves of the housings has a small air leak. Rather than taking them apart to redo, they just replace the housing.

Here is what I posted about this issue almost a year ago...

http://www.acura-tsx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=495

Mine got really bad. From the time I called the dealer to make an appointment until the time I brought it in, the HID went out (probably because it got wet). The ended up replacing the whole assembly, the bulb, the igniter etc... But it all turned out well.

Wow, I thought it was just my TSX that had the problem with the right headlight.
Thanks for the info everyone. I'm definitely bringing mines in to the dealership now.

I had the passenger side assembly replaced on mine about two months back because of the condensation. This was the only warranty work required in over one year of ownership and 30000 km. The dealer ordered the part sight unseen based on my phone call and it arrived 3 days later.

Yes, with my right headlight, unfortunately, I have no warranty on my car as it was purchased used (2003 Euro R, 10,000 KM) out of Singapore and then shipped to Jamaica. Will have to try the silicone fix myself.

The headlights condensation problem is a joke at this point. Acura/Honda should fix these problems even on vehicles past their warranty period.. Why you ask? Because I had the problem and never had any modifications or damage to my front end.

There's more.. My driver's side headlight fogged up like hell, so I took it to the dealer to get it fixed last week. They replaced the entire headlight under warranty.. Now guess what.. This week my passenger side headlight is fogged up to hell and has a ton of condensation. Now it looks like I have to make another trip to the dealer. I hope this doesn't become routine.

I've had the issue also on both units. Both were replaced with no issues but it helped that the condensate was still there when I brought the car in.

Which dealership was this? The dealership where I bought my TSX from told me I have to bring in the car so they can take a photo before they can order the parts. Both of my light assembly have condensation now.

ok....so i go down to acura this morning....and tell them that i have the condensation problem, and that the headlight doesnt even work and that i cant drive it like that at night. The service advisor that told me that they dont have the part in stock isnt there, so i talk to the person who greets people and asks whats the problem. So i explain the problem, adn hes like ooo....let me see if we have the part, and i tell him, the advisor said they dont have it that i would have to wait, but that i couldnt because the light doesnt even work, so he tells the mechanic if they could pull one off one of the loaners till it comes in....just as hes saying that, the parts guy is standing right there and says, let me see if we have it.2 mins later, he comes back and says we have all the parts....WTF!!!!!!!!i was kinda pissed because the advisor told me they didnt even have it!Plus the advisor never calls me back, next time i'm gonna ask for someone else....makes it worse, when i was in there the other day, he was makin all cool to me saying he knows my uncle and shit.....still gonna ask for someone else already.....but they did change it out today and said they had to send it back to acura....i wanted to keep it...but oh well......

God I hope not! I mean I can understand a 2004 having this issue but things like that are what they usually fix in the following model years. I think that was one of the reasons my 1991 Honda Prelude was so perfect except for one issue that they fixed for free (the 1991 Prelude was the last model year for that generation). However since I bought my 2004 TSX in April 2003 I have had to bring it into the dealer on at least 3 occations for them to fix flaws. One of the reasons people say to not buy the first model year of a car I suppose.

If you have the problem we are talking about in this thread (moisture in the headlight assembly) then you want to take it to the dealer and have them fix it. This is a known problem that they will fix for free under warrenty.

lol...I was cool

Well, I doubt they would give it to me, but I didnt ask. MY guess is that they send them back to the manufacture, they fix them and the dealer gets the refurbished part, which they put on your car. I really doubt its a brand spanking new part. I could be wrong. I did tell them though to replace it and not just resealed. Service adv said they would replace.
