comptech sway fitment issue

i too was experiencing some thumping after the sway install, its been about 2 weeks since install.
so i loosened the end links and unbolted the braces.
then i retightened the end links. and tried to align the bar, but it seems like the bar is either bent alittle or one side( the right/passenger side) is lower where the braces are.
the left side will make contact to the car but the right side wont. there is about a few centimeters gap. but retightened everything.
i tried everything from reunbolting everything and try aligning it right, but still wont fit perfectly.
and the ground surface is pretty even.

Hmmm, hope you dont have it upside down. I think its physically impossible, according to my thread, but take a look:

I think that could be your problem, you have to jack the car up by the body to get the sway bar aligned properly. Its too tight if you don't, I had my car on a drive on type lift and could not get the comptech bar to fit until I jacked up the body, at which point it was a piece of cake.

No the bar will not fit upside down, it would put the sway bar end links pointing up and in instead of down- and they won't bend that far in those directions.

When you are jacking up the car, make sure both wheels are off the ground. Otherwise, the bar will not line up correctly.

I had a thumping issue too... It was with the greddy EVO2 hitting the swaybar. I used lower hangers for the exhaust and haven't had any problems since. Is your exhaust stock?

Make sure the bar is centered. Another thing is, when your car turns, the bar actually slides a bit left and right relative to the brackets and bushings, so do not overtighten it (16ft/lb or 22Nm is the recommended torque) to allow for a little movement. End links is 28lb/ft (38Nm) since there is movement there also.

I have the comptech sway bar, and I don't have any of the "clunking" issue. The only difference I have is changing out the rubber bushings with poly bushings.

One question: How do you tighten the endlink nut?? There is no way you could fit the 5mm hex key and put a torque wrench over it.

Just torque the nut without worrying about the hex. I did it that way and it was fine. Since it rusts a bit, the removal was what needed the hex.

I got mine from here. The bushings come with silicone grease.

I assume it's # 95158 from this page? http://www.energysuspensionparts.com...20Bushings.asp

22mm....

Noticeable difference, or is the swaybar itself w/ stock bushings really enough on its own?

I think "some" came with rubber and the newer ones "might" come with poly bushings. My Comptech black bushings are poly, whereas another local member's are rubber. It's very obvious if you squeeze them. I have a new set of poly bushings side by side with the Comptech's, and the materials are the same. Which means, you will need to lube those bushings if they are poly.

Yea, I'm having the same issue, though not as bad as before. I suspect its the bracket bolts again. Im going to use Loctite this time...

Edit: Damn, there's a wide selection of Loctite threadlockers out there. Anyone have a suggestion on what to use?

retorqued everything and still clunks... comptech sway bar design must be a defect from a scratch.

The clunking bug has hit me too, Atleast i think it's the sway bar. I have had the bar installed for about 3 weeks or so and just today i hear this clunking sound. I thought it was the old sway bar i had left in the trunk.. i don't belive it is it, the clunk only seems to appear when i hit a bump or when i make a right jerk not left..
Is this the same issue? Is it even my RSB?
So i should retighten it?

Thanks

The other day, LA was hit with a "weird" weather and started raining. anyways, the clunking came back. and it was really bad, sounded like everything was loose. so i went under the car, in the rain getting wet, and tried tightening everything, but they were tight as ever. nothing loose. and soon as everything got warm and dry again, it went away.
any of you guys think there is some relation?

My car is bone stock with the exception of the Comptech RSB. I am going to tighten it this weekend. Does this cause any harm at all? Or is it just a noise problem? Is it bad for me to drive while it is doing this?

Thanks

Yea.. During warm or hot weather, less clunking is present. I parked my car outside last night and during the morning drive more clunking was noticed.

Ok so over the weekend i decided to jack my car and tighten the Endlinks on the RSB and see what happens. No noise! atleast for the time being. I will see if it returns in a couple weeks time.

I suggest you try tightening your endlinks, mines were not that loose maybe like a quarter turn? but it seems to make the difference.
