Composition Sensor

Anyone ever have a problem with their composition sensor? It's supposed to be related to the intake/throttle body. Some mechanic came over and said it's messed up on my TSX . I don't ever remember reading about this on the forum, so i found it interesting that it should be a problem on my car. Anyone know anything about this?

I want a part number from the mechanic b/c I don't know wtf he's talking about. Better yet, tell him to point it out exactly where it is.

Some vehicles have a fuel composition sensor....the TSX is not one of them.

Did he tell you it's going to cost $1200 to fix too?

I didn't get a quote from him...He just wrote me a note saying PO 341 composition sensor out of range. So yeah...I have to call AAA to go tow my car to a nearby Acura dealership (Leith).

When i turn on the car, it turns well a few times, but then starts to slow down unless i press the gas...then it turns on well. However, i need to keep probing the gas pedal, or else the rpm just drops freely until it shuts off the whole car.

and now...lucky me, my battery is dead. What's going on with my '04 ?!?

That sounds like OBD code. I wish I could search this board for "OBD code" or "CEL code" but for some retarded god damn reason you can't search for words shorter than 4 letters. (What the fuck, is it still 1984 and computers are still weak and expensive and I just didn't notice?)

I had a problem with a Legend some years back that caused the same sort of stalling behavior. In that case it was the crank position sensor. It was stupid expensive as I recall.

P0341 indicates the camshafts are out of phase, or the sensors indicate they are out of phase. Could be the cam position sensor, stretched timing chain or a cam has jumped time, etc.

I think you meant to say cam position sensor not composition sensor.

they said that they need to replace the timing chain and crankshaft and something else...i forget what because i was too depressed to even hear. Also, he said there is probly going to be problems with the cylinders and valves, too, since the timing jumped. So...this can easily go into the thousands. This is pathetic...i dont drive like a maniac, i dont even redline that often (i can probly count on my two hands how many times i've redlined). What could cause the timing chain to jump time. Maybe i'm just an unlucky victim of a freak accident.

Are you the original owner of the car? I think you'd end up doing better by just dropping a new block in.

I see you mentioned you're at 78K miles. What is the US warranty (in miles) for your car? Sorry I only remember the Canadian warranty. Often if you're just out of warranty, you can call Acura Customer Service and plead your case with them for a goodwill repair (free to you) or you-pay-labour, they-pay-parts.

Also just FYI, I believe there are problems with the K-series engines having problematic timnig chain tensioners... so possibly the tensioner let go and caused too much slack in the chain, causing it to jump teeth, etc, etc... it's definitely something to look into.

$1000 for the work they're quoting isn't too bad, BUT, the possibility of piston or valve damage is there in addition to that cost.

A new block would be pricey but at least A: it's something you can probably do with the help of a friend who has an engine hoist and some mechanical knowledge (has done a head gasket before), and B: almost a guaranteed-fix.

Well, I just looked it up and found that there is a new part number, meaning they either improved, changed suppliers, or updated it. Either way, makes me think I should investigate more.

so i picked up my car yesterday and the car is driving great...there was some rattling noises when i brought it up to vtec range, but i think it went away a little later. Just incase you live around the Raleigh area, Leith Acura is a great dealership with great service, my father and I went there to fix the car and he basically bought a TL while he was there, he's going to go negotiate this morning at 11.

The TSX is a great car, I'm just a little unlucky. If any prospective buyers reads this, don't let this deter you from buying a TSX.

So what was the final bill and what was included in that total? If you don't mind me asking, of course...

I dont know exactly, i have to go get the receipt. But from my memory they replaced the battery (about $130), timing chain, and crankshaft. There was a couple more, but the total cost was just under $1100.

Could that be camshaft instead of crankshaft?
