code P0498 changed & engine light on again

My car failed NJ inspection with the code P0498 so we changed the evap canister vent shut control circuit and the light is back on. Does anyone know why? what else is there to fix? We are at our wits end and I need to take the car back to inspection!

Did the light ever go out? Did you try disconnecting the battery to reboot everything?

Simba - The light went out after replacing part but came right back on. I did not know to disconnect battery to reboot systems....but makes sense to do so as it is a computer working. Will give it a try! Thanks!!!!

P0498 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Vent Shut Valve Circuit Low Voltage

Funny, the first check is for shorts, then replace EVAP canister vent shut valve, then update or substitute a know good ECM/PCM.

Sounds like a rouge short is the best bet. I'm not sure why you replaced the control circuit.

DuckDodgers- we wish we had known that this code does not always mean that it IS the EVAP!! We have found out the hard way! Anytime the comp has read a code on a car,it has been the actual problem until my Acura! It has always been dead on with our volkswagens!

So we are in a new learning curve apparently! Please feel free to offer any other suggestions!! Thank you for the advice!

Most of the PGM-FI troubleshooting is focuded on ruling out shorts, opens, and loose connection BEFORE changing out parts.

Exactly what part was replaced? Is the mechanic you are using an Acura dealer or specialist with access to a HDS? If not, does he have the shop manual to interpret the codes, as generic code readers are weak diagnosic tools without each manufacturers code list.
