coating in wheel well.

i noticed there is a coating under the front wheel wells. i'm guessing it's sprayed on for corrosion resistence.

anyway, i was washing my car and reached under the front wheel well and the coating was a soft/clay-like, black material that feels like tar. it comes off fairly easily, but i didn't think anything of it until i went to my dealer yesterday and i looked at a new tsx on the lot. the coating in the wheel wells was an off-white color, more like rubber than clay, and it didn't come off on your fingers...if you look under your tsx they use similar stuff on the underbody.

is this something they changed on newer build tsx or is there something wrong with the stuff on my car?

all cars have this similar "goo" under the vechicle. i beleive it is to minimize road noise and to prevent rust (corrosion).

i know all cars have this 'goo', but it seems on the newer built tsx they're using something less like 'goo' and more like an elastomer coating - 'spongy/rubbery' stuff.

just wondering if anyone can confirm.

Thank you for your post

I was a little worried when I saw that grease-like stuff all over the inside of my wheel well. As a new car owner, I'm super paranoid that there's going to be something wrong. The only thing that made me think it was something they did at the factory was that both wheel wells seemed to have exactly the same amount and the rear wheel wells had some too.

Thanks,
Rich

Do you guys have the 05 TSX? I have the 04 and I didn't see any coating inside the wheel well when I was doing my Icebox install. I would like to get some because I think the tire noise is a little excessive.

Edit: never mind. jlukja, who got by the thread post dates.
