I'm not completely sure of the name of this, but it feels like some sort of tape. Its black and covers the portion of the doors between the front and back windows.

Anyways, I chipped a bit off, and I can see the metal underneath. I'm just wondering, is the metal underneath painted? Do I need to worry about rusting? Since my car is silver, its hard to tell if I'm looking at exposed metal or silver painted metal.

 

The window frame on the door is painted underneath the "sticker". Getting the sticker completely removed and a new one installed smoothly is not easy. Best left to someone (bodyshop) that has done it before.

 

Is a very small chip, hardly noticeable so I'm not sure I want to go through that expense. My biggest concern was rust. How much does it cost to do?
