Angry CEL on just bought 06 TSX

I just wanted to get others opinions on how to handle a problem. I was cruising down the expressway today at 65 mph, when my newly purchased 06 TSX CEL came on. Having only put two tanks of gas in the car, I immediatly went to autozone for them to pull the code. The autozone employee told me that my catalytic converter has failed. I have 89,000 miles on the car so the warranty is out. Any opinions or words of advice for how to handle this situation. I truely believe the Acura dealership erased the code before selling us the car. Thanks for any words of advice!!

I'd get a second opinion. Could be an o2 sensor. What is the code?

The code was P0420-catalyst efficiency. One code was pending. Could that indicate that the dealership had erased the previous code?

did the dealer give you some kind of warranty. If so time to take it back to them. I also own a 06. Love it after almost 120,000 problem free miles

No, I actually had to sign a as is with no warranty form but I feel like as though its still not right for them to erase the code and sell the car without being upfront about the issue.

Some states require a minimal warranty with used cars. Check with your attorney general's office website.

If they erased a code, then you have an option...the trick is proving it.

Not sure what you mean by a code pending.

Code P0420 is performance out of range and is most commonly cause by bad gas. Suggest a good fuel system cleaner, use it on two back to back tanks of good PREMIUM fuel. Top tier is the best choice...that would be:

76, Aloha Petroleum,Chevron, Chevron Canada, Conoco, CountryMark, Entec Stations, Esso, Exxon, Kwik Trip / Kwik Star, MFA Oil Co., Mileage Stations, Mobil, Minit Markets,
Petro-Canada, Phillips 66, QuikTrip, Rebel Oil, Road Ranger, Severson Oil, Shell, Shell Canada, Sunoco Canada, Texaco, The Somerset Refinery, Inc., Tri-Par Oil Co., Turkey Hill, U.S. Oil.

Then reset the CEL and see if it reoccurs.

that code is a serious code. I had a '02 nissan sentra se-r 86,000 miles, a week ago with that code and now i have a '06 TSX. My catalytic converter was clogged. i gutted out the cat then because of the clog, my second cat clogged. Which because of that by the time i took it back to the mechanic $350 later my engine blew the piston rings because of the back pressure. You need it to take it to the mechanic to be safe. hope this helps.

same code on my car. came on and went off by itself. havent seen it since. probable cause impurities in fuel.
pending codes are codes that the pcm has detected but is waiting on another drive cylce to determine there is in fact a problem.

I had this same exact thing happen to me a few weeks ago. I put in high grade gas, unplugged my battery to reset the computer, and drove my car around for about 300 miles. Turned out to just be a bad batch of gas. My light hasn't come back on, and I passed my emissions test this week.
