Absolutely no issue there.

The code alone will not give that much data. It just gives the code and the intiial error code (in this case: engine overspeed condition). The freeze data from the HDS unit gives them that part about the RPM and MPH. The summary that they gave is purely speculation and is not exactly a diagnostic.

When you were referring to getting your oil changed, get it done at an Acura dealer. The reason I say this is that it looks as if you show financial obligation to the Acura division and not to some other party (A Honda dealer doesn't make it look as good, though it isn't as bad as going to Jiffy Lube).

Back to my earlier recommendation: If that dealer won't resolve this (which it seems they won't), call client services and get the ball rolling. You should have done this yesterday.

As for my background, I until recently, worked for Acura in service. Before that I have 4 years total for American Honda (2 years for Honda and 2 for Acura). I have worked in sales, F&I, sales management, and of course a little service and technical service. Basically, I know a LOT. Not to seem too cocky, but I am a good source of input.

This will be my task this afternoon then, to get this started with Acura.

But I still can't help but feel they too are gonna say 'over-rev' = you're screwed.

I mean whats my case against them? Do I tell them that the over-rev doesn't mean anything? I mean I'm not sure how to argue this. Do I just explain the situation and wait for thier response?

overreved does not mean you're screwed. A lot of BMW owners who does track driving does misshift sometimes, and I heard something a long time ago that the dealer/manufacturer cannot void the warranty based solely on the overrev code. I think there's even a lawsuit which rules in the customer's favor. Good luck!

I actually did take it to Ferman Acura here in tampa, and there were a Class act. They did see the code, but instead of immediatly pointing fingers, the svc manager took it upon themselves to check the car to see if any damaged was caused by my mishap. They did a compression test and found NOTHING wrong with the car. Thats the way shit should be, ever since I had my CL before the TSX, i've had nothing but bad experiences from Fountain Acura in Orlando, the biggest bunch of fucking pricks you'll ever meet. I wouldn't even toss them a penny for thier thoughts.

Is your clicking at the top, middle or bottom of the clutch travel? Almost ALL our 6MT Accord Euros (AUDM version of TSX) here have a loud clutch switch and that is normal.

If your click is at the bottom of the clutch travel, it might point to the clutch master cylinder fault.

The clicking clutch pedal is NOT normal. I had my master cylinder replaced last week and the clicking is gone.

call AMERICAN HONDA at Torrance, CA, complain to them. They usually will bend their back over for you, my tech taught me that, he used to work at acura dealer. I had trouble where they wont fix stupid things it should be covered, slightest mention of making complain with american honda made them took it up and suck up the bill to fix for me

I had a stang that had a problem with the clutch clicking. I know there very different cars. but my shifting fork was bent. part cost 15 bucks. unfortunately changing it is as involved as doing a clutch.

Car should not be destroyed by <1% over REV limit x1

I'm not a mechanical engineer but I know your engine/tranny should not be destroyed by going 8434 RPM or 8455 rather than 8400 max once or even a few times.

If it is this car is a total piece of crap and we should all sue Honda for selling defective goods.

Don't fiddle with the ECU, call the Acura Hotline and the District Service Manager directly. Get their names and document all your conversations so we can read in detail about how well/poorly you were treated by Honda here.

As for going 96MPH you should point out that the speedo goes to 160. When the engine computer says you were going 170MPH for a few hours they have a reason to complain.

Acura needs to act like a real luxury car company.

It depends on the condition when the engine was over-revved. The engine can be destroyed even at lower rpm if the engine is low on lubrication, poor gas or other forms of mechanical failure. Also, just because the speedo is 160, it doesn't mean the equipment on the car will allow you to safely go that high or handle such high speed.

Sure the pistons "could" go through the hood at 500 RPM. My point is they're not supposed to. Your oil sump or whatever is supposed to lube the engine and the fuel/knock sensors? are supposed to compensate for crappy fuel. to paraphrase david Chapelle, I'm not giving Honda credit for what they're "Supposed" to do.

I know a stock TSX can't go 170 or even 160 unless dropped from a plane, my point is that they put 160 on the speedo without any warning. If they think going too fast (96MPH LOL) will destroy the car or make it so unsafe they should print a redline on the speedo too at 70MPH and put a limiter on that too so we can paint our TSXes yellow and call them schoolbuses.

& they can stop pretending to be a performance car company.

The fuel cut is at 7300rpm so that's 1100rpm (15%) over spec. That's definitely pushing the margin of safety the engineers would have built into the components.

Does anyone really need a warning on their speedo saying some speed is dangerous? Have we reached the point where everytime someone misuses a product the builder should be held liable for it because it didn't write out a warning?

Obviously, going at 96mph in 2nd is a misuse of the car, even though it was caused by a misshift. The redline is at 7100rpm on the tach. It is accompanied by a cutoff at 7300. What more does one need? Honestly, if you failed your engine because of a mis-shift, your own mistake, can you blame the constructor for that?

Ah shitt.. I overrevved today when i misshifted from 6th to 2nd. Bad news because I rev matched to forth at around 6k so it jumped real fast over 8k. So far I don't know how far. But I checked engine and nothing smelled burnt out. Then I drove back to champaign and the engine ran smooth... so I'm assuming nothing is wrong. However does this void any warranty?

Only if its drivetrain related and the dealer can find out that you over-reved.

That's the danger of skipping a gear when downshifting: you may very well shift down 4 gears instead.

Wow ...

this board if full of people slagging the slushbox but the

Manual transmission sound like a real PITA to me. Skip a gear, void your waranty.

Glad I drive auto. Can use the manumatic if I'm bored and I can blame misshifts on a programmer in Japan.

What do you guys gain for all that right hand and heel and toe figiting anyways ? about 0.75 of a second 0-60 ?

& Can't we just have a button/toggle on the steering wheel for this shifting? Seems a little less 1950s.

Just MO, don't flame me or anything.
