Cabin Noisy?

Hey everyone,

Does anyone notice that the interior of the TSX doesn't really keep much exterior sound out of the cabin? I've driven the IS300, and I know that they're notorious for low cabin noise but I find the TSX a little excessive. For example, if it's raining and you're passing a truck on the highway the noise is substantial.

If it's in direct competition w/ the Lexus, why wouldn't Acura put more sound deadening material in the doors? I find the engine a little loud with light acceleration.

Don't get me wrong, when I smash the happy pedal I wanna hear the engine but not when I'm only going 20mph in 2nd gear.

Anyone feel the same?

My stereo is usually set to 20, so :whocares:

Cascade or Dynamat would help. I've got it in my doors and trunk...

While i don think the noise supression in the TSX is bad or terrible, its nothing spectacular either. I'd say its average. Probably not up to the standards of Lexus (althought I've never owned a lexus so i cant say for sure)

Meh... I'll go test drive another TSX and see if there's any difference.

Thanks!

Lexus is really good for low cabin noise, personally, I find the TSX acceptable. Spec-wise I would say that the IS is a direct competitor with the TSX, but if you've seen the price difference of the IS, it's a different story.

Wow! Cjams...wonder if it was hard?

You know what will help...replace your OEM 04-05 wiper blades to the new 06 wiper blades....4 bucks but it reduces wind noise!!! Best mod!

ya, test drove an 02 is300 before buying the tsx. really quiet interior, even when i had the rpm's up to around 4-4.5K.

the tsx isn't as quiet as a lexus, but, it's not something i'm too concerned about (much quieter than an integra type-r...for obvious reasons).

for me, i'd like to have some exterior noise, that way, it can give me a sense of what's going on while on the road...

Have any of you guys seen the new Lexus IS250/IS350? Visit their website...it's so sweet. I could use 300+HP Love my TSX but I wish it had some more "GO".

I'm actually thinking about switching to the new IS350. MAN that thing is sweet.
About the noise in the cabin: In my TSX I found that the noise in the cabin relates to the weather. If it's too cold I will notice a lot of rattles. If it's too hot then there'll be noise from the suspension components. However, after the car has been driven on for about 5-10 mins it'll get better.
Highway cruising: I think it didn't do a really good job on suppressing the outside noise. Again, I'm a fast driver (90+ on highway) and my car is on a different tire from factory with 18s and suspension mods.
But if you ask me if there is too much cabin noise then i'd say yes. The noise is too much for my taste and I usually drive around without radio sometimes.

And I have a Lexus RX, too. Maybe i'm spoiled cuz of that car.

I've always thought the cabin was noisier than I expected. A lot of it has to do with the noisy OEM tires and the surface you are driving on. Concrete requires a +2 adjustment on the radio volume.

Dynamat shcmynamat! No heavy tar stickers in my car. I would rather spend money on better mods than dynamat. It does help in some situations, but most people use it improperly.

I have none in my car though. No plans on puttng any in it either.

Back on track.....

My TSX is pretty noisey inside! It creeks and what not. Thats probably my only beef with the car. But as J luk ja said, my radio is always cranked as well, so I just drown out the cabin noise with the thump in the trunk!

Huh...Coulda sworn you did. Guess it was someone else...

Yea, when elduderino installed my system, he used Cascade instead of Dynamat.

The Avon Tech M550 is about as good as you can get in an All Season tire for noise, performance, etc. Check out the reviews on Tire Rack. I will be swapping the stock tires on my '06 TSX with these before I even drive off the lot.

I recall reading a couple of weeks (months?) ago that someone purchased the Avon tires. You might want to do a search for the thread and ask them.

It was Zasker1 that did it. He came home to Seattle last week and as we talked TSX ish over martinis we stumbled on to the conversation. He did a complete write up that he's waiting for a mod to post or host I think. But he dynamatted everything including the back of the rear seats. He said the back of the rear seats made the biggest sound improvement.
