Automatic Transmission Issue

I've was involved in an accident, and I recently got my TSX back from the body shop. I noticed that the automatic transmission does not shift as smoothly as it did before, sometimes it seems like it is confused on what gear it should be in resulting in kick back from the car. The manual mode is completely fine, but does anyone know what could possibly be wrong with the automatic. Is this an issue that can be easily fixed by the dealership or body shop? Thanks.

Work with the body shop and insurance company to resolution. The transmission may have been damaged by the collision or by the repair shop - it's impossible to judge here. Either way, what you describe is not right and needs to be corrected. It might be something as simple as a damaged electrical connector or a crimped wire.

Since the TSX is drive by wire(or no cable from the throttle pedal), I assume it still has a transmission shift cable from the tranny to the throttle body somewhere. Looking at an Acura parts site I did find that there is a shift control cable for the TSX. I'm not certain this is for the gear selector to the tranny, or on the tranny itself to the throttle body.

From older cars I have worked on this cable is connected to the tranny and snaked over to the throttle body where the air intake hose is located on the plenum(intake manifold).

There is normally a bolt to adjust the cable which in turns tells the tranny when to downshift etc. It would make sense that the manu-shift is okay and the auto is not.

Check for the cable routing and see if you can adjust it. You'll have to trial and error it. Adjust, drive it. Adjust till you are happy.

If there is no cable, then I assume it's computer controlled or at least by a solenoid.

I really need a factory service manual!

^ I would assume that since the car is DBW that all transmission control would be electronic. It would be weird to have a mechanical kickdown cable, IMHO in a car that is equipped with DBW.

I could be wrong!

I think you want to look for part number 6 on your tranny. There are two dials on it that will change shifting.

BE CAREFUL! I don't think you will destroy your tranny but shifting could be worse.
