Any way to improve the tinny sound of the doors?

My last car, a Saab, had really solid sounding doors. I read in a article where they commented on the TSX's "tinny" doors. I didn't think much of it, but man, those doors really are tinny sounding compared to the Saab. Anyone tried to improve on this?

Sound deadening. One of the things Honda mentioned in the design of the car was how they worked hard at making the doors closing sound good.

I have a 2004 with Cascade Audio VMAX in both F doors (not that much, either).

I just had a 2005 service loaner, and the difference - both when closing the doors, and when driving, was totally apparent. I had to figure out what it was, and realized it was the VMAX.

www.partsexpress.com (close to you, cheap shipping).

I hate Dynamat due to the asphalt smell in the summertime.

Perhaps the Saab door are just TOO solid? They were quite a bit harder to shut as well. Its a very subjective issue. I've had the car a month now and other than missing the seat memory of Saab, I really like this car. I'll get use to the door sound after a while.

elduderino -- you're right, PE is just up the road 1/2 hour. You can walk right into their HUGE warehouse and look before you buy. I've bought a lot of home audio parts from them. Wish they carried more car audio.

My mom once had a Volvo. The doors sounded "solid," but everything else about that car made it a POS; I don't see SAAB as being any better.

I've used PE and bought their spray-on sound deadener for the integra to help quite some of the plastic-on-plastic squeaks from the doors. I also bought a sheet of speaker foam to do the same thing - my mechanic swears by it and claims that when he worked for Honda, they used it all the time.

I have Vmax installed in my front doors (per elduderino's recommendation). The car is much quieter than before the Vmax install, up to about 45MPH. Going faster than 45 MPH is still a bit noisy. The Vmax also makes the door slam sound much less hollow (as if the doors were more substantial).

They really sound different depending on if you gently shut them or you slam them shut.

Hey elduderino does the vmax cutdown on road noise ? I know tires make a big diff but thats not an option right now. Yes the car has tint, I'm just trying to cut down road noise for the wife's TSX. Thanks

They only sound "tinny" when closed hard. Otherwise, they sound solid.

I put in Dynamat in my Toyota 4runner. Changed the sound of the doors completely.
However... i already think that the front doors on the TSX sound good already. So...
But just one layer of Dynamat extreme will change the sounds a LOT. Also, the quality of sound from the speakers will improve drastically because of the less sound resonating on the metal doors.

Tinny Sounding Doors

I found my 2004 front doors sounded tinny when closed hard (as infrequent passengers are prone to do!) and this really bugged me. My 2005 seems much better in this respect.

Hm. My 2004 sounds much better than the 2005 loaners I've gotten twice. And I found mine to sound tinny all the time - they only made an audible "poink" when closed. Maybe it's because in my line of work you close the doors of a lot of different cars.

I find that it does cut down on road noise. More the low end than the high end - lots of that comes through the glass.
