'08 TSX Alarm Problem/Question

My wife was driving the TSX the other day and used the fob to unlock the car. When she opened the door the alarm went off and she jumped in to start the car to get it to turn off to no avail. She closed door, locked, unlocked, etc... and couldn't get it to shut off. What are you supposed to do to deactivate once it's going? Apparently it was going for like 2 minutes before it turned off. Then when she got home and got out of the car it went off again. I was able to deactivate it that time by lock/unlock/lock but needless to say that was very frustrating. I called the dealer who of course can't replicate the problem so I want to see if anyone else has had this problem or knows what happened. Thanks.

If the alarm is set off accidently I think you can turn it off by turning the ignition to crank. And no, I haven't heard about this issue before. Try locking the doors with the key instead of the fob ...

the only time that has happened is when I used the key to open the car door instead of the remote. If you lock the car using the remote and set the security you have to use the remote to open the doors.

Perhaps she accidentally armed the system while the door was open? The security system is a little peculiar. When I first got my TSX, there were times when I would set off the car alarm after I stopped the car and remained inside (I think I locked the door from the inside using the door switch, and it armed the alarm). In the future, your wife should try the remote first before doing anything else. Trying to start the car while the alarm has been triggered probably won't do anything (the siren is connected to the door/trunk security, and the immobilizer is connected to the ignition switch).

Using the key to open the car door disables the security. In fact, if someone were to hypothetically pick the lock and make the cylinder turn, the security system would be disabled (the chip in the key is only used in the ignition switch, not the door).

I've set off the alarm a few times, its not that tough. In order to disarm it, you have to either use the key fob or turn the key in the driver's door to unlock it. Using the power lock switch won't do it. When it goes off, just push the unlock button the fob and that'll stop it. Always has for me.

Putting the key in the ignition and turning it will not turn off the alarm. In fact, if you open the car and lock it without the key in the ignition and leave it long enough, just putting the key in the ignition will set it off. Learned that one driving up the South Carolina. I stopped for gas and a snack. After I filled up, I moved to a parking space and went inside. Got my snack and drink and went outside to eat it. It was cold so I sat in the car and given that it was a fairly questionable area, I locked the door (using the power lock switch on the driver's door.) After I ate, I got situated and put the key in the ignition to start the car and last leg of the drive. As soon as the key started going into the ignition, the alarm went off. Did basically the same thing Thanksgiving. HFL was acting up, so I pulled into a parking lot to shut down the car and let the HFL reset. I turned off the car and let it sit without the key in the ignition. Waited about 2 minutes and put the key back in. Same results. Had to unlock with the fob and then start the car. Dad thought I had gotten into an accident.

In fact I think that was how someone got into my other Acura without setting off the alarm one night.
