'04 Air Conditioner broken

I knew this was going to happen!!
I just got back from picking my car up at the dealer. They said they couldn't duplicate the problem, even after letting the car run for 20 minutes to see if the AC would go out. Said it blew at 45 degrees. Said they checked the coolant (full) and all electrical stuff (checked out fine).
However, about halfway home (30 mins into a 60+ min drive), it started to get humid in the car and I knew right away that the AC went warm again. Put my hand up to the vent and confirmed it. I had it on auto at 70 at the time, so I turned it down to 58 and it blew the same temp. Left it there for 10 minutes or so and it never got any colder. Then, suddenly, about 5 minutes from home it started blowing cold again, but it only lasted a minute or two, then got warm again.
WTF!!!

Just tell them to change-out the relay that was mentioned here and hold onto it to show the Factory Rep. The labor would be zip and you could do a printout of the postings in this thread with the url for them to check themselves. Relay problems are usually intermittent until they totally fry-out, etc. You've got to appeal to their better nature & so called customer service. BTW - Does anyone know what the part number is for the relay and how much it costs?
I had a new 88 Accord EXi. Back then the bumper-to-bumper warranty was two years or 48,000 km (whichever came first), except it was only 40,000 km on the AC condenser; mine went at 43,000 km. Way back then - they knew.
I do a lot of mileage, and bought the extended warranty.

I had the relay problem, but was unable to get the dealership to switch it out until I could show them the issue. I would recommend heading over there and driving around until you can reproduce it for them, even if it takes a while.
I don't have the part number or cost, as they replaced it for free, and I didn't get a sales printout.

Sorry to hear about your A/C issues.
Wow...the A/C issues sound like the pits. My car has 77k miles on it and, knock on wood, the A/C works great. If it is destined to fail, hopefully that'll happen before 100k, as I did purchase the extended warranty.
Well, good news for me! As a followup to my page 3 posts about my A/C breaking (typical compressor clutch snapped off problem), I finally got my check in the mail today from Acura. They ended up giving me 50% goodwill reimbursement. About a month ago, I called and spoke w/ someone who took a detailed description of what happened. The next week some regional service manager guy called me and said the check would be in the mail soon. Well, today it finally arrived. All in all, they ended up shelling out $680 for a ~$1400 repair bill.
Believe me, I'm still pissed this even happened, but atleast Acura made an attempt to make it right. I'm surprised they even considered me for goodwill considering my car has 70k on it.
to Honda/Acura...now just stop putting crummy compressors in your cars and you'll be all set

Yeah, mine is STILL out. Been out for about 3 weeks now (I had a week-long business trip in there where I obviously couldn't do anything about it). When it first started, it would stay cold for any variable amount of time, from 5 minutes to 25 minutes, but then on Saturday it was out completely, just blowing hot fricking air.
I've already been to the dealer once for it, and they couldn't find anything wrong. Hopefully now that it's not blowing any cold air at all, they'll find what the problem is. Of course, it's a million degrees and so damn humid out.
So mad right now. I have another appt. for Thursday, have to drop the car off Wed. night.
It wouldn't be such a huge annoyance if my console lights and stereo hadn't crapped out on me less than a month before the AC, which took 2 trips to resolve. I've had enough of these unscheduled trips to the dealer, which is an hour each way for me.

I got my car back tonight. It was the stupid relay, as suggested before, and which they said they checked last time. Does the relay not show it's bad until it's completely dead (no cold air whatsoever)?
Oh well, all is in good working order now.

I don't have the part number or cost, as they goodwilled it, but I think it was probably pretty cheap.

Part #39794-SDA-A03 - RELAY ASSY., POWER (MICRO ISO)(OMRON) - $4.30 retail.
As for me, I'm going to pick one up ASAP and have it on hand, just in case.

That's what helped me come up with that idea.
Got a call from my case manager today. He had discussed my case with a regional manager and they decided to afford me some goodwill assistance. Bottom line is a check for $751! They calculated wholesale cost for my parts which cost me a little over a grand after taxes. I did not have the parts installed at the dealership and therefore they did not pay for any labor. Word to the wise...be sure and use the dealership if this happens to you and seek goodwill assistance prior to having the work done.
As I stated in a previous post, I would have been happy with a 50% payout so I am more than pleased with the final decision. This will more than cover the cost of a new digital camera and dinner for my wife and I at one of Nashville's finest restaurants to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary! I hope anyone that this problem befalls will have a similar goodwill experience to mine.

Relay???
I am having the same problem with a 2004 TSX with the air going in and out. The past few days the air on the passenger side worked but the driver's side blew hot.
52k miles on mine.
They can't find any issue, can't duplicate the problem yada yada. So I called and asked them to replace the relay as state on here and they are not really wanting to. Stating that if it is blowing cold then the relay is working.
So here I am stuck, and am ordering the relay and praying it does not go out to these big bills everyone else is having.

You should tell them that you don't care if they don't want to replace it, just do it. I don't understand why they are giving you a hard time. Although, I didn't have such an easy time, either. They told me that it's much easier to figure out the problem when it's just blowing warm air and not going back and forth. Don't know why.
I have just come back to this forum after being away for a while while researching my recent HVAC light failure. What concerns me is the some what alarming rate of early AC failures already being reported on this forum. I remember a similiar early trend being reported for HVAC light failures in 04. I now fear that that many more of us will eventually experience an AC failure much earlier than it normally should.
Hopefully Acura will acknowledge the problem and provide an extended warranty to fix the problem much like what is now happening with the recent warranty extension issue for the Audio-HVAC Display light failure.

My Update, not right part number??
Ok,
The service manager told me that the part number 39794-SDA-A03 was nothing to do with air. It is a fuel pump relay that had a recall on it for a many TSX's. So while your car was in for service they probably replaced it unbeknownst to you.
So my service manager said that if the air wasn't charged properly the drivers side can blow 20 degrees cooler. So they have to check for leaks and then refill this system and it should be fine??
He also said if it was a relay fuse that it would either blow hot or cold, not passenger side cold and driver hot.
We'll wait and see should get it back today.

My '04 TSX with 44K miles just had its AC die. A couple of days ago a drop of really cold water landed on my right foot while it was pressing the accelerator (I was wearing sandals). Then, today, the air just went from blowing cold to blowing ambient temperature.... So far, I have had to replace my radio display twice, the master clutch cylinder, the engine gaskets due to oil leaks, and now the A/C. One of the main reasons I bought an Acura was that I thought it would be reliable. Boy, was I wrong....
Compressor Exploded
Add me to the list of exploding compressors on my '04 TSX. Wow what a hole it made in the case. Luckily nothing else was damaged. I was all of 20 miles from my warranty "officially" expiring. Of course Honda/Acura is about to extend everyone's warranty to 52,500 miles due to the odometer class action lawsuit.
I don't have a TSX...but my (2002) RSX-S's a/c went out this yr. Same clunking noise and I knew what it was...told the dealer. $1600. (but since my car is now 6 yrs old)...well..lets hope my husbands TSX's ac doesn't croak on him...
We live in FL..we ALWAYS need our a/c.

Extended warranty, here I come.....
