victim to parking lot scratches again
this has been a bad week
in a muni lot in flushing, i came back to find two scratches on my car, both quite deep, each running about 4" in length. they're kinda tough to make out in the pics since the paint is so reflective, but you can make them out.
this is the first. it's in the rear passenger door on the driver's side. it's deep, but it didn't hit metal from the looks of it.
the second is worse because of how deep it is, in addition to the placement. it runs across the entire gas lid, but it starts/stops on the edges of the panel surrounding the lid. after inspecting it, looks like there is metal exposed and rust will be an issue unless it's repainted.
can't tell if someone keyed it, or maybe someone just forced their way through and hit me twice. the worst thing is, i just had that gas lid/panel painted in march from another parking lot incident. that one ran me around $950 to repaint those panels in addition to my bumper and bumper lip. i'm hoping it won't be as much money to fix this time.
i'm seriously considering not parking in flushing anymore. there just way too many a-holes there, too many ppl constantly cramming into spots or random joes and ladies forcing their way between cars with bags, carts and strollers.
if anyone has some ballpark estimates based on personal experience, let me know how much you paid.

Let me help you!
Looks like it was keyed to me. In that first pic, the scratch is above the curve (which should have been hit instead since it juts out farther), and it's in line with the door handle.

o yikes! the first one looks like buffing will do the job but the gas cap is no good. if they charge you a ridiculous amount, i'd just buy a new cap instead? and when you park in flushing, if you to goto the one next to hong kong supermarket - always park upstairs, last spot in the row. lol

That sucks man so just be really careful where you are parking and keep an eye on it. As far as the gas cap goes, you can take it out and get the parts that is scratch and painted it and it shouldn't cost you that much now on the body you need to get a body shop to fix it.

Ouch!
That sucks man! First off, if you are able to, I would say park way out in Timbuktu where you won't have a chance of getting hurt. I know you live in NYC so I'm not sure that is even an option, but just throwing that out there for ya.
As far as the paint goes, I would try buffing the first, and then if the they are going to charge you a ridiculous amount, do what someone else said. Look to see how much you can get a replacement gas cap for.

i've never really had issues parking in this lot. it actually is the one by HK market, but i don't know wtf happened. i'm looking at some options now for the gaslid. there's a vendor on ebay selling carbon fiber ones, but for TSX they'd have to be custom fabricated since he has none in stock.
i've seen the stock lid for like $26 bucks. depending how much it would cost to repaint, maybe it's just better to get a brand new one.

i usually never park in the outdoor section of the muni lot. you're a lot more susceptable to random ppl walking between cars to cut across the lot. i normally park underneath under the overhang and i never had issues. it just so happened that we were late meeting a wife's friend for lunch so i just zipped into the first spot i saw outside. the only other lot i park at is the muni under the highway overpass by college point blvd. or i park on the street further away from main. i never really have had issues in flushing, but it's kind of like russian roulette. park there enough times and bad stuff will eventually find it's way to your car.
i don't have a PC handy to try to buff it out. i'm just going to take it to a shop and see what they say.

i can't park my car 'better' when the lot is full, which is the norm for flushing. further wasn't an option at the time since we were late.
anyways, i'm past my initial anger. i'm just looking to get an estimate and getting it fixed.

well, just dropped the car off to the shop i normally go to. $320 is the damage for the door panel since it's pretty deep. the lid they'll just toss in there to paint too, and the scratches/nicks in the rear panel are just going to get touched up. i should have it by tomorrow.
*sigh* that's $320 less in my mods fund. bummer.

Flushing
Having been to Flushing last week, I must say, I was glad I was driving a rental and not my own TSX...
Two places that I would personally never take my car to in New York are Manhattan and Flushing from my limited travels there. I'd be worrying about my TSX all the time!
