Took a few night shots.

Using the suggestion of other board members, I took a few practice shots tonight. Here are the results. I don't like how Photobucket and the re-sizer I used got rid of some of the clarity, but oh well. Most of these were shot with Shutter priority mode (set to 15) and adjusting WB and ISO. I also tried a few at AP priority, but those did not turn out as well. I finally went to full manual for a few, but the best ones seemed to come from shutter pri. No editing except for resizing.

Bus passing by:

I'm kind of pleased with how this turned out, especially when you see the pic of how I rigged it.

Comments welcome.

Great job! I agree that the last shot is *very* good...you've got guts to try that with that rig!

Exposure looks pretty good. I personally prefer a more off-centre composition, though.

Apeture Priority is probably the mode I'd use for those shots too. Probably the only reason I'd use full Manual is if I wanted a really deep depth of field along with the long exposure, or to tone down the lights in a long exposure shot (I think those would be the only few reasons??)

I'm guessing your car looks kinda baby blue because it's that blue silver colour that was available in the 04 version, which I can't remember the name of? (I'm pretty sure we never got that colour in Canada).

But yes, good job!

Thanks for hte comments. I'm using a Canon S1 IS. Not bad for a 3.2 MP camera with somewhat limited features. the lense is the stock lense and can't be replaced. I do have an adaptor with a hood on it though.

My next camera will either be the S2 with is a 5 MP camera, or an upgrade to a full DLSR Canon Digital Rebel.

Ya the car is Meteor Silver. Kind of a light blue.

Whatever the stock rating is. They are factory bulbs. They do look blue in teh pics, but whiter normally.

Thanks for the comments.

Nice pics James!

I especially like the last one with the car in motion. The rims look great!

James, pics one and two and three are not as sharp as they could be. I see you have a tripod, but it is a flimsy one. 15 seconds is a pretty long exposure for a cam like the S1 IS on such a light pod. Any movement at all, however slight, will be magnified. Noise will be an issue too. Was it breezy at all? Maybe try a shorter exposure for next time.

I do like the effect of the bus passing by in #2. Adds an element of interest to the image. The white balance looks a little off too, but that could just be my monitor.

The suggestion by an earlier poster to experiment with your compositions is a good one.

The others look pretty good. I like your car, especially the wheels. Nice job.

Very slow. I rigged it, put the car in first, let the clutch out and jsut let the motor pull me around in a circle. no gas at all. I'd say I was going about 5 MPH in a circle. I'll have to see if I can get the tripod and camera out farther to get a better view of the wheel.
