Rim Paint DIY + Mugenized (Pics)

finally painted the OEM rims.
i think i'm the first one who tried 06 + rims into BLK.
so you guys out there can look at mine, if you like, go ahead and try on your ride

personally , i like it a lot

saturday morning, getting rdy to start

this one from Lexus IS spare tire. lol it helped

wanted to do a real good job on this, especially i'll be spending time in cold winter Michigan, don't want my rims to be ruined. Sanding was a bitch...
i advice that you do 2 rims a day, doing sanding on all four rims and getting them painted is just not possible.

take out the center cap, sand them as well

no need to use tapes. use simple index cards. easy

after first coat of primer. make sure you do THIN coats for 4 ~6 times.

after painted 5 coats, 3~4 layers of clear coating

got a good deal, straight from japan

color is a bit different from our PWP, but not much noticable. so i left them as it is.

Thanks EURTSX for tips on installing the grill.
I had to give up my EMT lights.... cut the wires right through...

finished product. i love it.

another present came. JDM licen plate. I will be using them for taking pictures of my tsx.

Comptech Exhaust + Fog Relay module thread coming up soon

Woah, very tastefully done! I love the black/red contrast between your calipers and wheels. Very stealth! Now this makes me want to paint my wheels gunmetal...How much was the Mugen grill?

Love the mods so far except for the mismatched window tint and black fuel door.

Wheels look awesome.

+1

i.e. did you flip 'em over and hit the other side too? I can't really tell from the final pictures of the wheels on the car.

Looks great!

PS to AamirCWITR - I bet his state doesn't allow tinted front windows...

As best I recall, NJ does not allow tinted fronts.

YES my state NJ does not allow front tinting.

K24 plate is from Ebay. i was searching for these for a while, and i paid nearly over 30 bucks for it, but very impressive with the quality, dark green fonts and size is jus a bit bigger than our plates.

after thinkin, i actually did some primer for the backside of the wheels.
2 coats of primers and that's it, no need to paint the back/inside of the rims really...
came out nice.

Do the same to the IS250 after a few days of rest(your hands must be really sore from all that sanding).

Nicely done. Works perfectly on the white car.

Not to be rude, but how many people have to tell you they don't like the CF gas cap before you'll take it off? I mean it is there to impress other people, right? And we're other people. And we're not impressed. Only saying that cause the car looks really slick otherwise, and I think most of us here agree you're only hurting the image with the CF cap.

i know it looks wierd with jus one CF fuel lid, i mean how does that help my car in image wise or in performance wise... lol

i feel ya, jus wait for me to get CF hood, or let me realize how bad it looks again, and i'll take it off one night. lol

Don't forget to CF the back trunk door also! AND black painted roof, then everything will flow together. I think I saw another member on this board who also has a PWP with black/CF accents... I think it was Rex.?

nope, VIS replied to my email saying that their 04+ CF hood actually fits my 06+.
I talked to couple members here , they also said it WILL fit my car.

i know the grill is different, i'm jus waiting to see how that's actually done.

Fair enough... and they always say don't critique a painting before the artist is finished, so maybe we should get off your back about it.

The rest of the car looks really well-done.

First of all, Go Blue!

I just graduated from Michigan in May and moved out here to California. Beautiful car, btw, although I agree that the CF gas door doesn't fit the car right now. The A-Spec looks a lot better on your car than on a NBP.

Looks really good bro, and awesome DIY! Did you paint the rims from the back though or is it not noticable?
