Smile Pics from Mid Ohio 5/22/05 (~2MB download)

I had a nice little getaway to Ohio for the weekend to catch the ALMS and Speed Touring Car races at Mid Ohio. It was nice to meet Moda_Way and MrChad who also had quite a drive to get to the track.

We had good weather up until the last 15 minutes of the ALMS race when it started to rain. All in all it was still a great day. Here are a few shots I took at the event:

Realtime on the track:

Realtime in the paddock:

(K24A2 in RSX-S)

ALMS on the track:

If anyone would like some larger shots or wallpapers, just let me know.

Just like ghetto folks, they only need the bare minimum of stuff. Practical over posh!! OBVIOUSLY

MrChad said this..."You look at these cars on TV and think damn the tolerances gotta be tight on these things. Then you get close to them and see that they're just put together enough to race them."

Its true... they only need to go fast.

I met Pierre at HIN charlotte.

He's pretty cool and actually offered me tickets to that race.

Unfortunately, I was attending IAS.

Those are some clean shots.

I'm not really liking those new wheels on the TSX but.....

How quick was that Maserati? (Enzo) where did it finish?

The Maserati looked very nice on the track, however it was assessed a stop & go penalty for an early collision and it never recovered. It finished 10th overall and 5th in GT1.

To be honest, pics can't do them justice. They're pretty nice. Running 235/40R17s (or 45s, can't remember) Toyos on them. Pete scrubbed his rear passenger one up REAL bad. Not sure how the tire stayed on.

That Maserati smoked like a chimney too. It suffered from an overly confident Italian driver. Evidently he was non-stop chatting the entire race with his pit. The announcer could translate some of it (as they only spoke in Italian), but wouldn't say most of the time what the driver was saying.

I don't know exact numbers but they're definitely fast. I would guess they'd be about 20-30 seconds a lap faster than a stock TSX. They sound mean as hell too.

FYI, the K24 in the RSX is using a cabled throttle body. If you look between the two welds on the air intake, you'll see the cable coming in from the drivers compartment and then under the blue part of the intake tube you'll see the actuator linkage of the throttle body.

I NEED A PIC OF THE TSX ENGINE BAY... the one being circulated now isn't close enough.

They were lapping in the 1.35s. My buddy was timing them.

The TSX is also running a cable actuated throttle body. They had the hood open on Davis' car for about 10 seconds, but I couldn't get a picture. I'll see if I can get one when they come to Mosport.

Yeah, they are all cable. Guess they have a VERY custom ECU for their setup.

They're running a MoTeC ECU with practically every option you can get for it.

Great pics Dan, too bad you didn't get more while they were racing. Although the ones with them stopped on the track look great.

Too bad you didn't get any pics of the neon in the same race as real time, that neon owns!
