My new NAV unit - Initial pics

Not done with the installation yet. Waiting for fiberglassing and somehow no sound signal. Don't know if SoundGate aux converter got damaged from uninstalling previous unit.

definitely...

screen will slide down if the unit was pushed in little bit, but this thing is pretty bulky and it can't go in any deeper.

will the trim piece under the climate control come out??

if so that will give you a little more clearance and maybe be able to angle the unit up towards the driver to help with inserting a cd/dvd

if you really wanted to get tricky you could try remounting the screen so it would slide out and up

but that would take A LOT of work

the cd slot wouldn't be altered just the way the monitor is mounted. i've seen it before, but it's a lot of work and tricky at that

i have a navi so i don't remember if the climate controls come in play, but have you thouht of buying a double din and installing where the factory nav would be and tucking the factory cd player in the back??

That is a double din unit. I just installed the 6600 version in my Lincoln LS. Very nice stuff!

I am curious why mounted there? With the way the screen lowers to eject a CD the car for sure cant be in park..

Unfortunately, that's not possible. Since the CD player and AC are on the same circuit board, you can't remove it. I don't think there's enough room for a double din back there without removing the circuit board.

you wouldn't remove the stock CD player just stuff it in the back behind the aftermarket system

xenonhid did it with is custom installed unit, but I didn't know if there was enough room to do it with a aftermarket double din mounting bracket

very nice...
But, isn't it bit low? I just dont like it because of the location. You will be looking down a lot at your navi and it can get dangeous for not paying attention on the road.

i don't actually need navi so i won't be using it that much. i've been living in my area for more than 10 years and practically knows every roads around town. its mostly for aesthetic reasons. also the location is not that bad when you actually look at it. plus i can control the angle of the screen if i need to.

XenonHid did this by mounting the main part of the double din in the storage bin area. Streeteffectz made a custom ribbon for him so that the screen only part of the double din could be fiberglassed on top where the factory HU is.

What you're talking about doing has been discussed quite a few times. The general consensus was that there just isn't enough room there because the circuit board gets in the way. That's why Streeteffectz came up with an alternate solution. That's not to say that it's impossible though, hopefully someone will be able to get one to fit. I'd really like to see that too!

i was referring to the placement of the stock head unit that xenonhid did by hiding in the dash

streeteffectz did a great job on that install and as far as the head unit's fitting it's all about the size of the unit, but I have a factory NAVI so no worries here
