pretty good actually... the first pic shows when it's off. if not, adjust your camera and just leave it on the entire time..

I would be paranoid that a cop might see me watching tv, or some other driver will call in and report that I'm watching tv while driving...

Seems a little too tall, but I suppose that's necessary to watch tv/videos. It looks nice, though!

Is there wiring between the plate and the mirror? If you didn't want to bother with the video, would it be a fairly straight forward backup camera setup?

yes it is a clip on, model# NSM-1118

yes there is wiring from my camera to the mirror. also you can wire it direct for just the reverse camera..
