thanks man! yeah apparently the Mugen exhaust is pretty restrictive. as for the setup, i just added the 3.1 pulley and the injectors. i told the hondata tuners about the injectors and they called and spoke with doug directly today and i don't exactly remember what he said, but in the long run everything should be fine. something about they were having problems with the 550's with a jackson racing manifold or something like that, don't remember all the details.

Hey man, just a thought...if you're running into belt slippage problems it could be that the belt is too long. I ran a 76.3" belt with the stock S/C setup, and that was already close to being too long. When I switched to the high boost pulley, the tensioning problem became worse and I ended up having to special order a 75.5" belt through NAPA (manufactured by Gates). It's twice as expensive as a standard belt (special order BS ), but that belt alleviated all tensioning/slippage issues I had .
Glad you spoke to Hondata about the injectors and they gave the nod. I can't wait to see what power you put down with the exhaust system .

and yeah i was relieved when the local hondata guys called me and told me that they spoke with doug directlly!

also, at the recommendation of Doug @ Hondata, i have also purchased an Injen CAI and will be ditching the Mugen intake for power purposes. when show time comes around i will be swapping back to the Mugen parts!

This thread is confirming the long held suspicion that Mugen is all show and no go. Glad I've got my Injen already, although when I get to the point in tuning that you're at it'll be interesting to see if my Tanabe MT exhaust is any better! I'm anticipating going with a large diamater single-exit exhaust at some point in the future.
#45
I don't know that your conclusion about Mugen being all show and no go is warranted. Could it be that those parts have just been optimized for NA? It could very well be the case that the parts are not matched correctly to the application.
#46
^agreed to some point.
the real proof will be in the 2nd gen TSX.
that car was built by Mugen to be run in a forced induction setup.
their new Mugen Accord is supercharged, so I'd be interested
to find out if the exhaust or whatever else they put on it is much
different in any way than what they did for the 1st gen TSX.
it's too bad that you'll have to switch a bunch of stuff out for shows Drew.
but it's gonna be nice to see the new numbers you post with the custom
piping and the injen in. bet that sucker is gonna be loud and fast.

Yeah from what I gather/understand, the Mugen parts are geared for more of an N/A application rather than boost.
We'll see on Saturday though regarding the intake. I believe we're gonna swap the exhaust out first and dyno with the Mugen intake and from there take it off and dyno with the Injen.

LukeaTron, good point. If someone does an NA build and the Mugen exhaust performs admirably, then I was definitely wrong, and it just wasn't designed with FI in mind. As of now, though, it seems Mugen exhaust components aren't optimal for a supercharged (and I'd definitely assume turbocharged) setup.
They sure are sexy, though.

Of the available mass-produced catbacks? Not sure. With forced induction you generally want large diamater piping, and I think the largest we have now is 60mm or 65mm all the way through.
DAYTA's been running a Comptech catback and has given no indication that it's a bottleneck in producing power - however, he doesn't have KPro, so there's been limited tuning done to his car.
I would imagine a single-exit exhaust with 70mm+ piping would be a good bet for FI on this car. Someone more learned than I in the ways of modding will surely pipe in with specifics. If I were buying a catback today with plans of heavily modding the car with boost, I'd go with a 5Zigen Fireball, Feel's single, J's 60RS single, etc. A custom job to fit the car's needs is always going to be superior, though.

Also, on one of your other points, aren't the Injen CAI and the Mugen intake different types of intakes. My understanding is that the Mugen set up is similiar to the CT Icebox (more midrange TQ/power) and the CAI Injen is designed for the higher end of the tach (higher HP numbers).
#55
^actually no they are not.
not from what I've learned.
only the Mugen and CT Engineering fit the description you listed.
the J's and GruppeM are short ram, and it appears as though it is much
more of just a carbon fiber shield, not an enclosed box at all.
they use cone filters, they don't sit in a box.

That's what I was thinking and to truly take advantage of the s/c, you gotta go with a larger diameter single exhaust. That's the main reason I switched to the Feels N1.

The 5zigen he has is most likely the 2.4inch Single exit version. The exhaust being fabricated will flow much more CFM than that. That coupled with the long tube intake will hopefully free up the intake and exhaust tract and give him the numbers he's looking for

Guys, this is one of the local hondata tuners that are tuning my car. If you guys have any questions you should direct them to him lol! Dont worry, he's good peoples!!!

first thing i saw before the socks was the SLIPPAHS!...hah!
if you willing to let go of your mugen intake tho..ill be glad to take it off your hands...lol...have a feeling its going on your daily...is it?
btw, have you decided to have an all show car AND an all go car yet?

it's the one with that MR technology or whatever it is. part number is sp1431p.

Here's a short video clip, light throttle, windows down. Injen CAI w/ SC.
Take some short videos of your dyno runs if you can!

I actually had the sp1430. I was able to get that to fit by rotating the rubber elbow on the throttle body. Hopefully you can get the sp1431 to fit though. Good luck! You're going to love the sound w/ the intake and the SC. It really brings out the SC whine!

alrighty guys just a quick update...
got back from the shop a little while ago and the exhaust looks, sounds, and feels GREAT!! we're gonna be installing the Injen CAI tomorrow morning before we head down to the dyno. i also ended up going with Tanabe mufflers instead of the Blitz cause they didn't come in in time.
oh and i don't remember who asked, but vtec kicks in at 3500.

i took some pics and vids from saturday but we're still having problems with the belt. in total i think i've gone through 4 belts now. my friend who installed the sc is gonna come take a look at it on thursday so hopefully he can figure out what's wrong with it.
but on a good note, on the first run and pretty much only run of the day lol, the car put down 250whp without any additional tuning so i'm hoping that once we get the problem fixed, i can be back on the dyno and get my car tuned!
