Joined the Painted Calipers Club

Hello all,

Last night I joined the recent influx of TSX owners that have painted their brake calipers. I've only completed phase one of the project (the front brakes) and will complete phase two later this week.

I used the common Acura decals as stencils to give a silver caliper/black "Acura" lettering look. I started by painting the area where the lettering would be gloss black, allowing it to dry, and then applying the decals. After making sure they were on good and even, I painted the calipers silver, allowed to dry, and removed the decals. I'm hoping this will be more permanent and easier to care for than just putting the decal on and hoping it stays over time.

Overall it turned out quite nicely, and although not a huge difference from stock, I think it is a nice touch.

It looks better in the full sun; these were taken last night and early AM today:

Sorry for the rusty rotors; I just washer her...

Looks great. Looks like when I posted my pics back in May, I truly did bring sexy back.

(I think I was the first person in a couple years to do this unless I'm mistaken, and I've seen a wave of it ever since. The dude I bought my decals from should pay me a commission or something, because I'm putting his kids through college! LOL)

I think we are going to have to start limiting the membership...lol.

Looks good, but didn't the 06-08 calipers already come painted silver???

Yeah, I almost bought a second set in black but then the lightbulb went on about using the white ones as stencils.

I like the idea of painting the lettering in. Perhaps if I ever get around to painting my calipers, I will do the same thing, just with silver lettering on a black caliper.

Yeah, but I didn't keep up with cleaning them and it wasn't a very even job to start with. Mine turned quite dull over time.

This time around they will hopefully stay clean!

looks good, i'm considering doing this and i think i like the painted lettering. I always worried that the heat would affeect the vinyl in some adverse way.

Wow! You did an awesome job! Looks sharp. I like the Acura on there too. I think I'll do that as well. But with white lettering. You said you make stensils? Can you give some details on how you did them? What you cut them with? Did you use spray paint? Cover with a clear coat? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn how you did this.

Thanks

Thanks!

I think CGTSX07 answered your questions, but yes I got them off of eBay. I spray-painted three coats of black where the lettering would be, let dry for an hour, applied the decals, painted three coats of silver, let dry for another hour, peeled off the decals and whal-la! No clear coat was added... but maybe I should have done this?

You need to update your avatar with your new calipers.

Bleser, your car looks great!

Where/how did you get those centercaps made? I've been wanting to something similar for my superleggeras for a long time...

Thanks!

I just found a place in Saint Louis (called Wicked Stickers) that does custom vinyl graphics and showed the guy what I wanted and they said "no problem, $20." It looks perfect and I would have paid far more than $20!

It's just a machined finish circle sticker over the ASA centercap followed by the black Acura logo sticker. Simple and clean!
