Wink I got my stereo supersized today!

Today I got my car radio supersized.
I took the 6x9's out and connected them to an Alpine MDR-M500 amp. Then hooked up two Alpine 10" E-type speakers. Whooaaa, You would not belive the difference in sound. It is a completely satifiying sound that I am more than happy with. Here are some pics...

From the trunk...

From the inside with seats down...

Hey, Hows it going?

I have purchased my TSX , and should already in approx 3 weeks.

I have a 12inch Pioneer Sub and Amp, and want to know how you guys have run the cabling from the boot to the head unit and battery

Any ideas and any how to pictures will be very helpful.

I want to install the sub and amp as soon as I get the car.

Regards
Justin

A friend of mine did it for me. But I can detail it for you with some pics. Just give me a couple of days to take some pics of the wiring.

Yes.

You have the 6.5" in the doors as full range speakers, supplimented by the tweeters in the dash and the 6x9's in the back acting as subs.

The hardest part was the power lead...
from the battery...

Fuse position...

Going through the fire wall you just push the 4 gauge wire through the same whole the car wiring goes through. It takes time.

Tuck it under the rug and come out the back

Gound is easy. Right next to the spare tire.

I bought the speaker conection from circut city ($5). and tucked it behind the trunk liner.

I hooked up a high input to low input adapeter and tucked it behind the trunk liner.

Not pictured is the remote lead. I connected it to the same wire that turns on the stock amp. but I wish I would of saved myself the time an trouble because the stock amp turns on with the car acc and not the radio. So my amp turns on with the ignition and not the radio.

If you guy have any other questions just ask and I will try to answer them the best I can. But if you do upgrade it is well worth the time and money.

One the drivers side next to the tire on the fire wall their is a factory wire harnest about 1 1/2 inches thick. I will take a pic of exactly where he went through and put it up maybe tomorrow.

I went through here but you can puch it through the wireing harness just above.

Make sure you push through about 4 ft of wire because the other end is difficult to get you hand into. ( behind the Brakes master cylinder).

Hope this helps.

so ortiz, your 6x9s are not connected at all, right? cause im curious, i swapped my 6x9s and im now adding a sub, and i dont want to get rid of the 6x9s... so then how would i connect my amp??? what extra parts would i need? ive read that the stock amp doesnt have RCA outputs... i.e. RCA converter or something? (not too familiar with car audio installs at all)

Pretty sure you can still run a high input to low input adapeter. You just have to splice the speaker cables to the 6x9s. That way you can keep both. I had to do that with my truck, so as not to lose the door speakers.

To install a high to low signal adapter their are 4 steps.

A) you unplug the rear 6x9s.
B) plug in a adapter, (the honda 03' accord speaker adapter works $8). If you are too cheap to buy the adapter you can cut the wires.
C) connect the wires to the high to low adapter.
D) connect the RCAs from the adapter to your amp. use insulated cables if you need them longer (monster cables work well).

Click here if you need a bigger pic (not 52k friendly)

EDIT: I did both speakers but only pictured one as a reference.

When I say it is low pass filter that simply means that only the bass signal gets through, No treble. It is however an amplified signal (or speaker level signal).

If you want to do this mod, you need a high to low signal converter. Mine is made by periphiral (generic costs $20). But you can get one from any stereo shop for about $20. Just call around.

Stop you guyz are making me blush.

My trunk is covered with wall to wall Dynamat. It does make a difference.

BTW, make sure it is rolled on smooth so you can put all the lining back. If possible put two layers on both the bottom and top of where the trunk and trunk lid meet. The tighter you can make that seal the better.

I'm kinda curious if anyone has tried this yet, but it is my next project for the bass in the car. Tap directly off the rear speaker inputs via 4way hi-lo converter. then put the subs on a 100hz low crossover and put the 6x9's on a 80hz high crossover since we already have the low crossover built into the stock amp, right? =o) at least I don't have to worry about white noise...(I hope)

Ortiz: Sorry for responding to this thread so late in the game. I just join last month. What is the part number to the honda speaker wire adapter you use with the hi to lo converter. Just to make sure everything is straight. What u did was, disconnected the 6x9, connected the wires to the hondaadapter, then connect that to the hi to low converter and then to the amp. Then have the amp connected to your two subs and whalaa!. Am I missing anything????

I think You have it. As for the speaker wire adapter just ask for an accord 03' adapter (it is the same).

thanks for those pics, they're awesome . I was wondering, is anyone having rattles or squakes after beefing up the sound system? I had a old civic that used to creak like a grandma after I put a stereo in it with subs, and my previous car, a 2001 1.7el wasn't too bad, but did notice rattles after about a year with the sub.

thanks

I have replaced all the speakers in my car. I am happy to report no rattles (except when I am pushing peak volume with the bass up).

BTW, I have my trunk covered in Dynomat.

no rattles when in the drivers seat. but my trunk can definately be heard rattling when standing outside the car. I think with full range 6X9s installed in the rear deck their sound covers up any rattling that might be coming from the subs in the trunk.

I solved my rattle problem. I just turned the DB down on my m500 amp to -10db. Still sounds good but no rattles from the trunk at "vol 40" plus it sounds good.

I know this thread is a lil old but I'm going to attempt to get my sub installed.

Everything seems pretty straight forward, but the only questions I have are:

1. Connecting the amp remote wire to.....?
2. I read on another thread that you need to grab the signals from both 6x9 speakers...? is that true? and if so, Are the two adapters fromt he speakers able to connect to a single LOC? I only have a single sub so I really don't know why I would need to disconnect both 6x9's...

Is there any chance of getting pictures of your remote wire connection for the amp?

Many thanks in Advance if anyone can help me with this.

you can still use the 6x9. you can just cut the wires or buy some splicers to make it look clean.
