Friend's Turbo FC shooting 12 sec flames

Went on a drive last night w/ some friends. Got a really good clip of my buddy's FC shooting out flames. No sound (camera doesn't support it) but cool vid nontheless. When we drove through the mountain side the entire side of the cliff would light up because of it.

FC Fireball

I was so surprised when he did that (I was scared that the fire might burnt my grill lol)

A backfire is usually just a quick pop and a little fire shooting out the tailpipe. This thing continuously burned for 12 seconds...

Nitrous will blow out a lit match so I don't think that's it.

A 12 sec flame seems kinda long. Usually it's just a quick pop of flame. Even in the WRC, with anti-lag systems, the flame is no more than a quick blast. You should tell your friend to have his car checked out. He's not burning up all the fuel going in rotor chamber. Running rich perhaps?

yeah, if it was backfire, i think it'd look more like the very end of the video clip, that quick small burst at the very end. i agree with everyone else here, i don't think a flame shooting out for that long at a time is a very good thing for your car...especially the exhaust i'm guessing.

It's called horrible engine tuning.

A flame between shifts implies a temporary rich condition which is common on turboed cars with blowoff valves. Constant flames is just ridiculously rich, low power.

It is definitely not a normal tuning. When my Talon runs with blowoff valves instead of bypass, it causes backfire, but it only last for 1 second, a continous backfire like this one is either super rich, or he has a flame-thrower.

I'm sorry but a 12 second long flame is not normal. Maybe your car did it too but that doesn't mean it should.
