What would it take to make the TSX as fast as a 2G TL?

Hey guys, I was curious what mods it would take for the TSX to be able to run with a 2000-2003 TL-P. I drive my mom's 01 TL all the time, and I feel it has just enough power for me. So what mods would it take? Could someone break down the whp that these mods would give?

Hondata Reflash
Injen CAI
DC Header

I did search. I didn't find anything relating to my main question. What would it take to make the TSX roughly equal to the 2nd generation 2000-2003 Acura 3.2TL?

This is a loaded question. What do you mean by "run?". Forced Induction if you are referring to HP. Visit Hondata.com for dynos for the mods you have listed.

i ran vs the regular 00-03 TL's and i barely won... it was pretty much equal with me ahead,

to have an approx. in what it takes hp wise, do a tl-s weight/hp and tsx weight/hp and see where you stand then see what difference in hp you need to achieve...

edit... cause of the close weight you are looking at about 245 crank hp for the tsx

Were you stock? And is your car AT or MT?

btw what does the 04 TSX weigh? i'm getting a bunch of different weights from differnet sites. 3250-3325 is the range i'm getting.

The 6MT is slightly lighter than the 5AT, 32XX for 6MT and 33XX for 5AT from what I researched long time ago. TSX is a heavy car tho, but I love all those "POWER" device + all those Luxury decoration so I needa live with it.

LOL. I hope you guys realize he's talking about the TL-P here. I would think a stock 2006 6MT with a good driver would be able to hang.

With I/H/Hondata you should be able to win.

The TL-P has 225 hp, weighs 3483 lbs, and is a 5AT/SS. 0-60 in 7.7, 1/4 in 15.9, from edmunds. You guys w/ 6mts should be able to beat them with a little skill. I'd even give it a go in my 05 5at with an intake - if I lose, it won't be by much.

so basically anyone with an intake, header, cat, exhaust, and hondata should give it a run for its money.

I think so, assuming we arent talking type S. My father-in-law has this exact TL....it seems like its quick enough, but I actually think the 6mts will beat it pretty easy, let alone with the mods you mentioned. My 5at would need some help to beat it, but it certainly isn't impossible.

Lets compare a TSX with an Automatic transmission to be fair.

Ok so you want to do it to a 5AT

then I would start with this.

Injen or K&N intake - $250
DC Sports Header (cheaper) $300 or Copmtech Header (better quality) - $525
RT High Flow Cat - $325
Catback Exhaust (Greddy, Comptech, Tanabe, DC Sports) - $700-800
Hondata Reflash - $600
UR Underdrive Pulleys - $300

So for 2700 you can gain around 40-45whp or so and get you around 180-190whp and be close to being as fast. you wont be faster than it but if you add a supercharger after all of that I would say you would be.

IF you add the supercharger ($4000) and subtract the exhaust (doesn't add much power, $700-$800) and the reflash (s/c includes reflash, $600) you'd be competing with the TL.

yeah but you actually gain more power with an exhaust than you would normally once you have supercharger, intake, header, high flow cat, you are blocking the way a little with the factory exhaust i would believe.

Heck, with a supercharger, you'd be competing with a 3rd gen 5AT TL.

With a s/c on a 5AT TSX, you'd beat a 3rd gen 5AT TL. I dynoed at 227hp/169tq but the temp was 93 degrees at the time. I have the comptech header, comptech intake, random hi flow cat, and stock exhaust.

Jeez it takes all of that just to be able to compete with a 2G 3.2TL? What's the TSX dyno at the wheels stock?

If I were to get a TSX, the most likely mods I'd get are

Injen CAI
DC header
and hondata

Whats the difference between a catback exhaust and an R/T highflow cat?

Lastly how much do UR pulleys add?

a cat back exhaust replaces everything back from the cat. the rt highflow cat actually replaces the cat. the cat on the tsx is extremely restrictive and the rt cat yields large gains.

Im an extreme noob, but the problem I have with replacing exhausts is that I hate the large mufflers. Can you do the RT highflow cat without changing out the exhaust tips? I like the way the stock look, and even the S2000 ones that I saw on a TSX.

SECSTAC, the greddy sp2 exhaust tips aren't as big as the evo2 tips. comptech is a nice touch as well. some of these after market parts aren't all about raw hp/tq and speed ... it's more about a sportier feel to the tsx and an enhanced level of driving excitement/enjoyment. if you think about it for nearly $30,000 all us tsx owner could've gotten a much quicker vehicle, but instead we opted for comfort, convinience, and a touch of class. there's a list of my mods in my signature (i too have an AUTO) if you wanna know more about each individual part then just pm me. its far too much to write at this point. happy hunting!

to answer your question, YES. the random high flow cat ONLY replaces the stock (restrictive) catalytic converter. it's a direct replacement and won't effect your header and/or exhaust.
