Question What are the best TSX brake pads for the bucks?

I have a 2004 AT TSX and need to grab some new pads at 20K (I am now at 22K). What are the best brake pads for the TXS (at a decent price)?

Cheers,

-C

From what I've heard, Hawk. I just installed a set on the weekend and I'm loving them so far. Great bite.

Thanks for the quick replies. Does anyone have a preferred vendor for good prices (online or in person)? I see Pep Boys has them but so does EBay etc.

Are the Hawk ceramic pads work the extra $$ compared to the Hawk HPS? I'm really worried about dust on my aftermarket rims when I do decide to upgrade. Do the Hawk HPS have a lot or little dust?

Are your pads worn down and need replacing or are you thinking 20K=new pads?

They are getting "soft" in response so I figure I would replace them. They recommend 20K miles and I am already at 22K so I figure what the heck.

I was wondering what pads people were running with the stock rotors. I'm one of the fortunate ones that doesn't have the "warped rotor" problem so I'll be keeping the stockies when the time comes to change pads.

20K maintenance incluedes inspecting the brakes, not replacing. However, nothing wrong with an upgrade if you're so inclined.

Lucky you. Mine went to crap around 28k. Have 32k now and no problems.

So if I get some Hawk pads is it advisable to get new rotors too? I am not ready to chuck the stock ones as long as they act right. I had the front rotors resurfaced once (under warantee of course) and they have been fine since.

Hawk HPS for me with new rotors and yes they will dust up a bit more depending of course on how you drive. If you've gone thru 2+ summers you might want to check your brake fulid also. The softer pedal could also be related to the fluids getting dirty and breaking down.

P.S. Don't try to save a few bucks on a lower grade of pad. It's not worth it.

I'm no expert, but I believe others on this site have said it's best to bed in new pads on either new or resurfaced rotors.

I am with jlukja on the rotors. Has anyone kept the stock rotors with new Hawk pads? If the rotors stay kosher I would rather not replace them.

Pick up a set of Brembo blanks instead. Only $50 each US.

I picked up Axxis Ultimates on Ebay for $100 including shipping. I am using my stock rotors. I just had them cut. HUGE difference in stopping. They are really quiet (no squealing). There is more brake dust than stock but it is worth the better stopping power in my opinion

How long have you had the ceramics? How is the brake dust or noise with these? I was planning on doing ceramic with stock rotors. Down the road change to powerslot or Racing brake slotted rotors.

Some people call powerslot rotors "powerslut" , are they not as good as racing brake rotors?

If I remember correctly the "powerslut" reference was just a typo rather than a quality issue. It's just that others, including me, went for a laugh at the expense of someone else. It then had a life of its own.

I had the Axxis ultimates on my 04, though only for the fronts. The bite was substantially improved though the brake dust was annoying. Just ask TSX.Fury how dirty my wheels were after just a few thousand miles of using those pads.

I've had the rotors and pads for about 4,000 miles now. The brake dust is barely more than stock pads from what I've noticed, and I get a light squeal now and then when I first press on the brake. I went with ceramics because that was what the OEMs are and I wanted to stay with that.

"Power slut" was just from people fooling around with the name ....they're good rotors from my experience. I like this setup and would buy it again.

Im running the stock rotors with hps pad for a while now. What a difference. Love those pads. You can tell that it has more stopping power now. It stops on command.

I think JTso is using Hawk ceramics but I don't know about his rotors. I suspect he's got something other than OEM.

I have the hawk hps on stock rotors... After my original rotors warped, the dealer replaced with new rotors and i have them installed the hawk pads... Its been 10k miles since and its been good so far.. Much improved breaking power compared to stock pads but a little more brake dust...

Yes, I got the Hawk ceramic pads with OEM rotors. I have used Hawk HPS pads before and the ceramic pads are much better in the low dust department and excellent for street use.

Maybe you might want to consider washing your car during those few thousand mile intervals?

Tire Rack carries both Hawk Ceramics and Hawk HPS. I'm getting pretty close to needing to replace my fronts -- about 38k on them. The backs look okay.

I'm in Australia, and I don't fancy Tire Rack's method of shipment using UPS (will be hit with huge fees to get through customs eventhough the pads won't be taxed).

If there is another place that is able to send via USPS airmail, that would be best.

^^ I agree. It's not difficult to use a soft rim brush when you wash your car weekly or monthly.

My guess is that there would be two basic categories of answer: "Lah lah lah fucktard!" and "lah lah lah without a dyno!"
