Trunk Net Installation

Bought the trunk net and didn't have it installed not knowing you have to take the trunk apart to intall the hooks. Has anyone done it? Or know what the dealer charges to do this.

Is that the official Acura trunk net you bought?

I have a '05 ( version) and my trunk has four built-in hooks, I didn't have to install any hook. And today I just installed a cargo net that came off a '99 Accord (my brother's old ride) with some clipping hooks (for quick removal when needed) bought from a hardware store (maybe I'll post pix for visual later).

Yes I bought the net from the same dealer I bought the car. But the hooks were in the bag with the net not in the trunk. I had the service dept. fax me the installation instructions for the hooks and it is intense. You practically disassemble the whole trunk.

The factory TSX net requires drilling for the installation. I like mine much better and more useful holding down stuffs in the trunk. It also uses the factory 4 mounting points.

Wow thanks for the quick pic. My '05 has those hooks so I could save my self the installation and try that approach with a different net. I like that mat you have in there too.

Here are pix of my net (not official TSX net) in my TSX ('05). The hooks bolted to my trunk were already there when I took delivery of the car. Again, mine is 05 Canada car. Are there such slight differences between US and Can car (even same year)??

My TSX is a 2005. How hard was it to self install? I have the official instructions. I am having a hard time deciding whether or not its worth the effort. But I loved the trunk net in my Honda Civic and so I am still debating this.

Sorry, can't help you any further on this one. Like I said, mine's 05 too (Canada) but the hooks are apparently built-in.

By the way, do the hooks that come with your official TSX net look anything like the hooks shown in my pictures?

Yeah, I am enjoying my net right now, I can tuck my stuff in it and still corner hard without having to worry about throwing things around in the trunk

installing the cargo net

first off go here.. (from handa accessories)

http://www.handa-accessories.com/tsx/08L96.pdf

Follow the directions except you DO NOT need a hole saw.. a 3/8 bit should be good enough. ALl you need the drill for is to make a hole big enough for the thread to pop-out so you can put the hooks on.

Basically the deal is this.. there are two existing holes, and you need to make two more holes through the trunk matting. There is an existing hole through the metal frame you will be attaching the bolt to.

here's some comments on the steps in the installation instructions..

1) use scissors to cut out the template. It basically helps you mark where to drill

2) easy to do - remove the clip

3) mark where you will drill.. use a sharpee

4) same procedure

5) take out the trunk floor mat -- still easy

6) just gently use force to remove the rear panel lining -- easy

7) ok, here you do not have to take out the WHOLE left lining and WHOLE right lining. WHat it's saying here is to pull the mating out so you can start drilling a hole. The reason you don't drill without pulling the matting out is you could hit something behind it without knowing.

8) A hole saw is very unnecessary.. a 1/2 or 3/8 drill bit would suffice. The hole here does not have to be clean. All that needs to happen is for the bolt to be able to portrude through the trunk mating where you can screw the hook in.

9) repeat

10) Follow the bolt and washer orderings

11) same

12) put back the left trunk side and right trunk side. If you didn't take the whole thing out, then it shoul dbe easy to put back.

13) If the bolt doesn't stick out of the mating, make the hole a little bigger

15) basically .. you're done! put everything back

Interesting... so the official net sits vertically in the trunk... mine's existing hooks are like what JTso's setup shows. My net lays flat on the trunk floor which I think works better in holding things down...

Does it attach to the hooks on the trunk floor?

Or do you still have to install the hooks for the Acura net?

wow. I didnt think to use hooks on the existing floor stays. Good one! I'll try this whne I get home. I took my old 2002 Honda Accord net with me when I bought the new car. Thought the hooks would be pre-installed. no such luck. I like the net on the floor anyway.

OK, so everybody has those existings hooks on the trunk floor? But they weren't meant for the cargo net? So what were they meant for?

I'd always assume they are for the net, that's why I set up my net (off an Accord) using them without thinking twice...

Yeah I thought those hooks already in the trunk would be for the cargo net...So I put a new sound system in a couple weeks ago, and I decided I should just buy the cargo net so stuff doesn't slide around and hit my subwoofer. I call up my dealer who became kind of a buddy of mine, and he tells me "ahh don't buy it here, they'll charge you 80 some bucks with install, so he personally hops on ebay and gets me the official Acura net for $35. Sweet! Well just today i look at the install instructions, and I see I have to drill etc. to install this thing!? Damn. Well at least it gives me an excuse to use my drill that's been sitting in the closet for 2 years.

Oh, and I like how the instructions say something like "this install is not for do-it-yourselfers"

The hooks are really for bungee cords/ tie downs. Atleast that's what the dealer told me. Then again, they'll tell you anything. I tried my accord net and it fits. The gargo area of the net isn't as deep, but the cords at the corners are long enough. Sweet!

In a way your dealer didn't lie, we are using those hooks for bungee-corded tie-down cargo net

Wonder if those hooks are mentioned in the manual... so I can use this icon on ourselves... oh wait, I just got to use it

The 350Z net that Elephantman_nosefacehead found seems to be much bigger than the Accord net and also fits well, maybe I'll get one too

Thank you guys, I'm going to pick up that 350Z net. It doesn't look like I can install the TSX one without taking out most of my sound system, it's ridiculous. Ac dropped the ball on this one.
