Which tranny best suits the k24A2 powerband?

Everytime I run the TSX hard while accelerating, the 1-2 upshift is gets more irritating. The huge drop in RPMs takes away all the fun. With that said, I'm looking into doing a swap.

Stock TSX 6MT
1st Gear 3.27
2nd Gear 1.88
3rd Gear 1.36
4th Gear 1.03
5th Gear 0.83
6th Gear 0.66
Final Drive: 4.76
No LSD

USDM Type-S (2002-2004)
1st gear 3.267
2nd gear 2.130
3rd gear 1.517
4th gear 1.147
5th gear 0.921
6th gear 0.738
Final Drive Ratio 4.389
No LSD

K20A JDM ITR
1st Gear Ratio 3.266
2nd Gear Ratio 2.130
3rd Gear Ratio 1.517
4th Gear Ratio 1.212
5th Gear Ratio 0.972
6th Gear Ratio 0.780
Final gear ratio 4.764
w/ LSD

If a swap can be done, which one would you prefer? I'd have to suspect the JDM ITR's due to availability and the fact there's an LSD. However, it looks like gas mileage will suffer due to shorter gears at freeway speeds.

If you find a K20A JDM ITR, that would probably be best, with the TSX 6th gear for freeway efficiency.

Wouldn't a solution be to get Hondata what lowers the vTech kick in point to 5000RPM so when you shift you still stay within the vTech power band?

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you want a tranny that will let you accelerate quicker, use a combo of RSX-S tranny with CRV differential (5.14), add a Quaife to it.

For highway mileage, the stock tranny gives an ideal compromise between mileage and enough torque for hillclimbs without needing to constantly downshift.

LOL, we have it worse. Our AUDM Accord Euro somehow has different ratios and final drive compared to the TSX, eventhough we also have the magnesium case 6-speed manual. Check this out, we have a longer final drive than the TSX so our acceleration suffers, while the gap between 1st and second is larger than the TSX! Shifting at 7200-7300rpm drops us back down to 4500rpm.

Ratio 1 3.533
Ratio 2 1.880
Ratio 3 1.354
Ratio 4 1.027
Ratio 5 0.825
Ratio 6 0.659
Final drive ratio 4.388

Anyone have a link to some used JDM trannies? I usually use hmotorsonline or passwordjdm, but wanted some other options.

Didn't you ask me to find the part number for the final gear so that you could improve the final drive? Did you get it? If not you, someone from Aus. asked me for the part number.

I think it was someone else. Was it a 5.4 final drive? I know someone here who is putting that in. Also, the DC5R's 4.764 (which comes in your 6MT) is a swap with our 4.388.

Yeah, must of been someone else then. I just remember I looked up the US final drive gear for an Aussie. Wanted to see the results.

If you do an RSX-S swap, keep your 6th gear for cruising. I'd keep the shorter final drive too.

Actually, on paper the Civic Si's tranny will accomplish the same thing without having to interchange gears. I wonder what the availability is on the 06 Civic Si's PNN4's tranny? The FD, 1st and 6th gears are identical to the TSX. However, I don't know if it has an LSD.

I think the Civic Si tranny looks perfect -- closer ratios down low with the same final drive and 6th gear. That, plus LSD. Wonder why the TSX lacks that set-up. That 1-2 shift drives me nuts, too. Even with Hondata and the 7,600 rpm redline, I drop to about 4,300 and back off the high cam. The Civic tranny would keep you on the high cam if you have Hondata.

By any chance, would you know if the speed sensor plug is identical on the TSX and Si trannies?
