Thinking about purchasing AEM SRI

Anyone have extended thoughts about this mod? I heard the video vtec.net dished out, and I think it sounds very nice. Any thoughts about advantages/disadvantages over the stock setup?

i'm planning on getting one too. Not that I have anything against INJEN or K&N, but i've had an AEM before, and loved it, so I guess its j/loyalty to the company that i'm gonna be going w/AEM again..

I just found the AEM SRI for $219.00 at www.ultrarev.com.

Seems like a fair price to me. Is there any reason to not switch from the OEM box to this SRI?

advantage: can't hydrolock

disadvantage: realistic power under driving conditions (read: hot engine bay) is unknown.

Both the injen and K&N can be used a SRI, I don't think they've ever been dynoed though.

The only advantage I can see right now with the AEM is ease of installation. It seems to make less power than both the Injen andf K&N and it costs more by it seems about $30US. If you don't have a problem with a more difficult installtion then IMO the Injen or K&N is the only way to go, pending release of the V2 which the AEM rep said is in the works.

I keep seeing mention at various places that some intakes are for mt only. Is there a difference with intakes that makes them appropriate for automatic or manual tranny's? I find this a little strange.

Is it even easier to install? You still have to remove the stock air box and resonator don't you? Which requires going in the front left tire well or removing the bumper.

You have to remove the bumper to install the AEM SRI? Anyone else have any input on this whole thread?

Well, you don't have to remove the bumper even if it's a CAI. The SRI seems to be a little easier according to this pic. It looks like all you have to do is to remove the airbox and leave the resonator intact. But there's still a possibility that you need to peel back the wheel liner to disconnect the resonator from the airbox.

It is better to wait to see if AEM will design a new cold air intake and V2 intake on TSX in the future instead of buying Short air intake.

Hello AEM Tech,

Would you happen to have a PDF formated set of instructions for the TSX SRI install?

If you want to run SRI, but with the future option of CAI, check out the two piece setup from Injen. I also think the K&N one is a two-piece.

As far as a Hydrolock issue is concerned, just remember that to hydrolock your engine, the WHOLE filter needs to be submerged in water. Our filter is at the same height as the botton of the door jamb, which mean you would have to drive your car into water as deep as the jamb and i seriously doubt you tsx-er's would do that. =)

a question for ingentech,

let's say, if i got the Mugen aero front bumper (which doesnt have the stock plastic covers located on the foglight spots, instead, just two big open-spaces), and i install a CAI...so basically the CAI filter will be sitting right behind the "big open space".

will that cause me any problem ? (it's rains pretty much everyday here in Seattle)...maybe there wont be a serious problem like hydrolock, but any chances for filter to suck in any random splashes (which is pretty bad too) !?

thanks man!

random splashes wont kill your car....=) if you want a little bit of piece of mind, pick up a deflector to put over the filter.

so tat means it is possible for CAI to suck in some random splashes (under my situation)!? this thing happened to my friend's IS 300, and it was pretty bad, so that's why i want to play safe on the intake

deflector?...where can i get it? (a link maybe)
these kinda things somehow block certain amount of air therefore a bit less HP gain, is tat correct!?

thx so much man!
