Tanabe SMH full screen video --- 56K warning ---

Here is a video of a WOT run with the the Tanabe SMH and high flow cat. The in-car camera mount is on the passenger side headrest so the interior exhaust note is what you would expect to hear from this exhaust. You probably will pick up the CAI sound as well. Btw, the clicking sound is from the carmera mount and the mic is very sensitive.

PLEASE RIGHT CLICK AND SAVE TARGET AS... then play from your computer .

It's actually not very loud during normal driving. It's kind of like a CAI. It gets louder only when you gun it.

All windows are up. It's not that much louder than my CAI during WOT. Not sure what rumble you are referring to... but sound transition seems smooth from low to high rpm. It sounds more like a sports car now.

So this is a single exhaust setup right? Have you gotten a chance to dyno it?

Nice! So what is the extent of your exhaust system now? CAI, header, hi-flow cat and exhaust?

BTW, using a stopwatch, I get ~11.68 sec from 0-80 MPH. Not bad considering you didn't use a drop-clutch start. Couldn't see 60 on the speedo.

The car sounds great. My only concerns going this route would be how it affects day-to-day driving, with noise on longer trips, etc.

well highway driving shouldnt be bad, at 75 mph the car revs at 2.5k rpm and its not WOT either. assuming thats when the exhaust makes its noice

It's the in-car mount by Cruise Cam. I got mine from ebay.

My exhaust system consists of DC header, Carsound cat and Tanabe catback.

It's a dual muffler setup. No dyno today as they are booked until next week.

Part 2: 0-60 time!

This morning I went back to the same place where I did the previous 0-60 runs.

Changes since the last test:
1. SSR GT2 wheels with PS2 tires
2. Tanabe SMH exhaust
3. Carsound cat

Some testing data:
Testing equipment = scantool with 0-60 time program.
Outside temp = 58 degress
Road condition = dry

Engine coolant temp = 189 degrees
Intake air temp = 72 degrees

Test runs:
I did one test run to get familar with the new tires. The time was 6.68, same as the best time from the previous test.

Real runs:
I did two back-to-back runs. The first one with VSA on and the second with VSA off. The video is from the first run as it was better focused.

Here are the results:
Run 1 (VSA on) = 6.3319
Run 2 (VSA off) = 6.3300

Engine mods:
1. Hondata refresh
2. Hondata HSG
3. Big bored TB
4. TB coolant bypass
5. DC header
6. Carsound cat
7. Tanabe SMH exhaust
8. K&N CAI

Here is the video... Note the readout on the left side of the steering wheel and the speedo when it his 60mph. Also note the Hondata refresh made it possible to keep the engine in high cam mode (above 5K rpm) in between shifts.

PLEASE RIGHT CLICK AND SAVE TARGET AS... then play from your computer .

Over a quarter of a second off the 0-60 time ain't bad!

Question about the Tanabe- do you know if the mufflers are straight through? Fujitsubo uses chambered mufflers, as the inlet and outlets are offset from each other by several inches and baffles are visible from the outlet ports.

Edit: what scantool is that?

I think the time can be faster for a better driver. The muffler seems to be a straight through design with the inlet slightly off to one side.

My scantool is just a generic OBD2 PDA version from http://www.obdmeter.com . But they don't sell them anymore. There are many PDA or PC based scantools available with even more features.

Any 1/4 mile setting on your test equipment?

If not, get to a track; this car's gotta be in the 14's .

BTW, any pics of the exhaust on the car?

Very nice videos, JTso. I think the sound was mostly from the CAI though. Still pretty good. Also, 0-60mph in just a little over 6 seconds is very impressive. Good work.

No 1/4 mile setting on the scan tool but I do have a GTech that will do 1/4. I might give it a try soon. I wouldn't mind try it at the track either...

According to C&D's test results, they tested a stock TSX 0-60 in 7.2 and 1/4 in 15.6 @ 91mph. Since my 0-60 is almost a whole second faster, one would think high 14 is possible with the current setup.

No pic with the exhaust yet. I need to wash the car first.

Part 3: 1/4 mile!

I went out and tested the 1/4 mile with the GTech tonight. I did a few runs for warm up and they ranged from 15.35, 15.45 and 15.38. Then the last run it happened when I reved the engine a little higher while feathering the clutch...

PLEASE RIGHT CLICK AND SAVE TARGET AS... then play from your computer .

1/4 mile clip

Note the 0-60 time when the display blinked for a second. It displayed 6.36 which is pretty close to what I got earlier this morning with the scan tool @ 6.33. Then when it reached 1/4, it displayed 14.73 second @ 96.6 mph! I realize this device is not 100% accurate. I would be happy if it's even at 14.95.

Thanks Lanny! I really like the way how things are setup now. The runs were made with VSA on, no changes to tire pressure (34F & 32R) and the car didn't hop or spin it's tires. It's just a very streetable car that has some nice straightline performance.

Yeah, the motor is still fresh but I think it's completely broken-in during my mis-shift and over reved it recently.

This seems like the best choice out there for the TSX. Sounds very nice, but not too obtrusive. And the fitment is perfect. Looks like it belongs there.

Yeah, if it had been around when I was catback shopping I might have opted for it over the Fujitsubo.

They look very similar (although I don't have a bodykit) and from what I can tell, the interior sound is nearly identical.

ps. Congrats on a ~14 second 1/4 mile time!

Nice videos man. I like how the tach needle shoot up to red line so effortlessly. I'm gonna try that on my auto. I wonder why I never redline mines before.....
