A/T to M/T Swap questions

ok so my transmission is on the way out. instead of paying $3000 (which i was quoted) to rebuild or finding a used one in a junkyard somewhere and hoping it lasts. I'm considering doing the swap to standard.

my friend swapped his 99 accord v6 to a 6spd standard a while back and hes giving me a list of parts i would need, but off the top of his head he's not fully sure what else would be needed.this was the swap thread he had made when he did the swap at 1st. he later swapped out the engine also and is currently on a 3.5 6spd s/c setup.
http://www.6thgenaccord.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=9004
He has a pretty good idea considering his car was auto and they never made his generation with a v6 m/t. so he had to buy EVERYTHING. he's rebuilt his auto twice and just decided to pay the extra to swap to standard then keep rebuilding his auto which doesnt seem to last more then 30-50k

my questions are 1st off is there a swap list anywhere? possibly someone has posted one. i searched but didnt get anything in return

what hes told me off the top of his head follows

-Transmission (obviously)
-Clutch
-Flywheel
-Pressure Plate
-Clutch lines
-ECU
-Engine Harness
-Starter motor (different at/mt?)
-Pedals/brackets
-Shifter Assy
-Shifter Cables(are they cable?)
-Axles (different at/mt?)
-Slave Cyl
-Clutch Master Cyl
-Resevoir assy
-Mounts & brackets (differennt at/mt?)

also another question would be the crankshaft/camshaft sensors different from at-mt?

i ask because i know the CL has different sensors from auto/standard

A member on another forum has already completed the conversion and here is the list compiled by MugenCL9 and ethankz750.
Also has the prices as well. Depends what you're after, but it wont be cheaper, but not much dearer either. Just takes time and patience to source the parts and the labour/reliability issues to also consider.

Clutch fluid tank 46965-S6A-013 $33

Clutch hard line A 46960-SEA-A01 $14
(This is a part that is no longer available so I had to use the one from the Honda accord even though it is slightly different but it wouldn’t matter because the rest of my lines weren’t OEM hard lines since I used braided steel lines instead)

Clutch hard line A (accord) 46960-SDA-A04 $9

Clutch hard line B 46970-SDA-A01 $5.5

Clutch pipe bracket A 46995-SDA-A02 $10

Upper mount bracket bolt 95701-12060-07 $1.50

Upper mount bracket 50670-SEA-E11 $27
(Find a wreck MT TSX for it because the ACCORD’s bracket is different and wouldn’t work)

Half shaft:

Half shaft 44500-SDA-A00 $185

Half shaft bolts 90102-SF1-000 $4 (2)

Half shaft bolt 90165-SE0-000 $2

AT and MT axles are the same

AT and MT radiator are different in a sense that the AT radiator has more lines coming out from it that goes through the AT transmission so I pretty much just plug all the on that goes to the AT so I wouldn't have to buy a new one.

MT radiator 19010-RBB-E01 $240

MT gauges 78120-SEC-A11 $475

MugenCL9 NOTES:

I used an AT harness with the AT ECU so the clutch pedal sensor wasn’t required so pretty much I was required to press on the clutch pedal to start the car.

I could never imagine trying to replace AT harness with the MT harness since that means removing the WHOLE DASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The pedal and the clutch cylinder is the most difficult part in the sway!!!! The clutch pedal assembly is NOT a direct bolt on and a fabricated bracket is required to bolt on the pedal. The big issue you will encounter is installing the CM cylinder.

Like most Hondas in the past the MT and AT fire wall were the same so it made it extremely simple to do a MT swap but for the TSX it isn’t!!!

I realize that this may be unsolicited, but it seems to me that this is a really dumb idea. And just because someone else did it doesn't change that. Downsides: same approx. cost, allot of PIA work, and the biggest (in my opinion) would be the effect on resale. Upsides: ummm......... someone please add one or two. And if I remember correctly, there have been numerous reports of guys replacing their AT for allot less than $3K. Sucks that the tranny is on the way out, but...... I don't remember anyone ever saying that owning a car was cheap.

Stock comparisons puts the auto trans TSX approx. 0.5 second behind the M/T TSX from 0-60mph.
Add mods & the difference increases.
Plus the difference would be greater thru an entire 1/4 mile.
Plus the M/T is way superior on a road course.

The reason folks are considering swapping to a manual trans is because the 4 cylinder TSX with an auto trans is really lame.
