Skunk2 Project TSX

Sport Compact Car has the part II article on the Skunk2 TSX . They got the TSX to 184 whp and 162 torque and they are using the RSX K-PRO. I'd post the article but I wanted to see if this was cool with the Mods...copyright and all that. I personally thought they would have gotten better numbers.

I'd like to see what they were doing here. We have a user that with just a cai hit those numbers ...183hp and 162lbft I think.

Sounds like they forgot to turn the kpro on

I thought I saw some numbers like that. They didn't mention swapping the throttle body or removing the DBW either. It just says that they did rewiring (that doesn't say much!) Well..is it okay if I post the article?

Absolutely, we do it all the time. As far as I know there is no way to make the tsx work with a rsx ecu unless the engine is no longer in a tsx. You would lose things like tach/speedo as well as vsa etc. Also, the cams in the tsx can't vary there cam angle as much as in the rsx(physical space limitation) so if they tried to tune it too aggressive they would wind up hosing the engine. haha.

not tha tmuch work, it's basically i/h/e kpro. The tires breaking loose on vtec switchover harkens back to the old b series and top rpm power will make a huge difference in accelerations run.

I liek the fact they extracted most of the power by using fuel tuning ... cam angle changes which hondata does in it's flashes should pay big dividents.

I'm bummed they didn't include power graphs.

Hmm...their test car started out rather weak. Must have been pretty beat up.

Those are pretty good gains considering that they're using a hacked K-Pro and prototype equipment. I bet the reflash will be just as good as this tune.

Do you think that had they started with a better baseline TSX, they might have gotten an additional 6-8 hp and tq gains? What are the average dynos for a stock TSX? And what did they do about DBW?

the "stock dyno" from the press fleet car looks identical to the curves we see from our users.

I must say i'm quite dissapointed with their work. dont' get me wrong the huge top end gains do wonders for full on acceleration tests but the low end seems pretty pathetic.
Less torque than stock below 5200 rpms? I hope hondata can do better with the low cam.

They would have had to remove the DBW if they used the K-Pro. I'm pretty sure I can see the throttle cable in the pic with the intake.

I suppose I should comapre torque numbers to their basline. In which case it's not so bad an extra 10 lbft at 2500 rpms and 5000 rpms would make for a nice bump.

Nice catch...I'm looking at the real mag and I think you are correct sir. Perhaps I should actually look at the pictures I post...

Looking at that graph I have a feeling they swtiched the crossover point to 5200 rpms. I know they mentioned that there was a 6000 rpm crossover but they also talk about a huge surge in torque at switchover and the only place that takes place is 5200 rpms.

After tune peak hp is at 6100 rpms and peak tq at 5800rpms. don't get me wrong the top end in that car will rip and full out acceleration will be much faster. They dropped .8 seconds off their 1/4 time...if we can do similar tsxs will be running mid to high 14s. I was just hoping for some more torque down low. Hopefully hondata will work some wonders. Though the 5-10lbft over their baseline run for most of the band would be nice in and of itself.

Edit: Anyone else see that beat down base tsx torque curve and suddenly fear that driving their car hard was doing some serious damage like I did?

I am pretty sure that mine is worse.

Did anyone notice the exhaust design? The pipe size is necked down to bolt up to the stock cat.

Great info guys and great post Camoe!

Wow....9 hp to the wheels with a header?!

I would also like to have some more low end torque just like TinkySD.

The good news is that they said most of the gains they made were from fuel tunning(because it was easier)...I have a feeling on the low end you will see more benefit from timing and cam angle tuning which I firmly believe hondata will do. Also, if you look at their basline versus their kpro they do gain a significant amount of torque through the power band...most notably about 10lb ft at 2500 and 4500 rpms. I'm pretty hopeful that hondata will be able to get some more out of the low end.

Looking at the plots, it seems like the engine might respond well to a more aggressive cam profile. Wow, this is really good stuff. Thanks for the post. Can hardly wait for this stuff to come out! Hum, is it possible that there will be a 240hp NA TSX in our lifetime? Wait, is there light at the end of the tunnel...nah, it's just a train.

Hondata -- Since I know you look at these boards time to time any comments? I know you can't talk specifics but do you agree about the state of tune for the tsx from the factory being mild?
