Thumbs up Short Shifter Installed

Finally got my short shifter today (came in Tuesday but was held at UPS). I installed it right when i got it. process took 1.5 hours. was a pretty akjlshakshk install but at last its in. ill do a mini right up later tonight when i have some time. Shifts feel nice and tight and of course shorter. The piece just attaches at the bottom of the existing shifter to make it longer at the bottom (hence the short shifting). Small mod but I like it

All my life I have had a stick shift and have loved it. But when you get married and your wife doesn't want to learn how to drive stick you get stuck with an auto. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

BTW nice mod. Did you take pics of install?

Does this solve the gritty 2nd gear shift? Or help at all? If it does, I would be interested in it. What is the main advantage of having a short shifter?

my second gear shift was never really gritty. the short shifter just gives you a sportier shifter feel. its tight and short, not as smooth and long as it was before.

which part of the center console are you talking about? the entire piece including the armrest? OR are you talking about the plastic piece with the cup holder that surrounds the shifter?

Just finished the install...wow...what a pain in the butt. But it was worth the trouble! I'd say this is the best mod you can make for 60 bucks. With the stock setup I had some trouble shifting hard and comming off the clutch too soon....now with the short throw it works out perfect. I know they say it shortens the throw 30% but it feels more like 40% or 50%. BUT THIS PRODUCT!! I would consider this a must have mod.

I'd say so...its pretty much like this

first..click..second..click..third..click..fourth. .click..fifth..click..sixth

Instead of

first....click....second....click....third....clic k....fourth....click....fifth....click....sixth

Comptech...both look similar. I just went with comptech due to the fact most acura dealers tend to sell computech parts so most of the time they wont give you greef about the warranty

Jab, where were you when I posted for feedback in my "mods and warranty info" thread?

I'm really digging the feel of the stock shifter, but I am relatively easy to please, so this mod isn't on my short list, but it is good to know that people are really enjoying the feel of it.

Now some dealers will give you greef if you didnt have the part intalled at an acura dealer.

I enjoyed the feel of the stock shifter as well and to be honest I didnt think that the short shifter would make that much of a differance. But I love it...makes me feel more in touch with the car I guess.

That's my thing as well. I'm finding my shifts are lagging my my clutch action, and not the throw.

I agree, how do you remove the center console (the part that surrounds the boot and cup holders). The Comptech instructions says to lift straight up starting from the front section, but mine doesn't want to budge. Even used my "Super Ninja Grip" and still doesn't want to break free. Any special techniques used here? Don't want to break anything on the new car.

just dig into the shift boot (near the front of the center console, infront of the heater buttons) so that you can grab a hold of it and just pull out.

you just have to give a good yank. The first time it comes out it is pretty stiff. But it is just clips holding it in. Becareful not to scratch anything.

Thanks for the tips, I didn't realize how tight it was. Thought that was tough until I got to the retainer clip which was even tighter! But after all that, the short shifter is as good as advertised. It makes driving the car that much more fun! Definately worth the effort in installing it. A highly recommended and inexpensive mod. :P :P
