Reflash/CAI/Heatshield questions
I just ordered the Hondata reflash from Kindle racing (offer expires today). I know the reflash is much more effective with the CAI (I plan on adding the Injen CAI next week). It's also my understanding that the reflash is adapts to intake temps.
My questions:
1. If I plan on adding the CAI, do I need to add it BEFORE the reflash to get best performance? Or does the reflash initially adapt to the stock intake, and then "RE-ADAPT" when intake mods are made?
2. How difficult is it to install the Hondata heatshield gasket...and is it worthwhile?
hey, I don't mind asking stupid questions as long as I get this right....

In open loop mode (during WOT), it won't matter whether you install the CAI bfore or after, other than the flashed ECU not being able to give out optimum performance without a CAI.
As for closed loop mode, the ECU will have to adapt once you install the CAI, so it's up to you if you want to reset the ECU after you've done the installation or if you do it right away and let the ECU learn it as it learns everything else again.
Make sure you drive only with premium from now on. Hondata requires premium ONLY.

thanks
thanks for the response
If I do reflash first, how do I reset the ECU once the CAi is installed?
Thanks also for the fuel advice. My baby has had nothing but 93 so far. And I don't plan to change.

Hmm, I'm not exactly sure, JTso (who's reading right now) might be more able to tell you.
I think it implies disabling the battery for 5 minutes and then replugging, and idling your engine for a few minutes.

No resetting is necessary when adding CAI, header, or exhaust. The ECU will handle the changes accordingly based on the various sensor inputs.
For example: You drive your car home one afternoon and the outside temp is 70 degrees F. You then start the same car up the next morning to go to work and the outside temp is 40 degrees F. There is a 30 degrees difference but the ECU is able to adjust the fuel/timing accordingly by monitoring the coolant temp, air temp, and O2 sensor inputs. However, if you have to reset the ECU after performing a repair that's related to a CEL, then disconnect the battery for a moment and reconnect.
