Re-badging Instead Of De-Badging

I just had this yen to de-badge or re-badge or something-badge my car. Almost an irrational urge, I pondered taking off the TSX, or the Acura and TSX both, or putting on "euro-R" on the lower-right corner of the trunk (quickly ruled out) or even re-doing the whole thing as a Honda Accord Euro R (too extensive, and I like driving an "Acura").

None of that really suited me. Then I thought, well, I've modified my engine quite a bit -- up 32 bhp and 22 lb-ft. Then I came across the exact badge I wanted to add at Heeltoe Automovie. You may or may not like it, but it makes me happy -- just a small indication that my car isn't an ordinary TSX. Let me know what you think -- like it or not, I can take it.

I made measurements of an RSX-S rear badge and used the same location measurements so that it would appear accurate. They're pretty close, just about down to the millimeter. I love it!

if you have a Euro R, and people ask u why u have it, you can say TSX is a Euro R Accord.

if you have A-spec badge on, and people ask u why you have it, you can answer either you have a-spec body kit or a-spec suspension (or both)

if you have the type-s badge on, and people ask you why you have it, you say it's taken from other Acura Model lines, and type S isn't really distinguished in TSX model.

just my opinion...and also reason why i have a-spec badge on with my OEM a-spec body kits.

Check out my latest thread -- I also DIY'd an SRI heatshield using cardboard from a jogging stroller box and weatherstripping left over from my front door. If that isn't what makes it a TSX-S, then I don't know what does...

It's a weight-savings, you see, it's all about not upsetting the dynamic balance of the car. That's what the new TSX Type S is all about -- uncompromising performance.

The more I look at it in person, the happier I am. Gotta say it -- I love how it looks, much better (to my eye) than the plain TSX or debadging. I've always wanted to do something, just couldn't settle on what. When I had the TSX badge off (to move it over), I knew I wouldn't like debadging -- too plain for me.

If I didn't have performance mods, I wouldn't have done it (for whatever that's worth). They should make a TSX Type S, keeping the K24 just juicing it up. If I can get 30 hp from bolt-ons, imagine what the Acura dudes could do. Big Brembo brakes, cold-air intake, header, 11:1 compression, hotter cam, etc. They should do it. I'm just on the leading edge of the wave...

Thanks for all the feedback, + or -!

in standard form the tsx is closer the Accord Type S (as sold in europe) than it is to the euroR so your logic is a bit floored

SO what did you exactly do to your engine that's so extensive that makes it a Type-S?? Any pics or dyno to show?

The standard bolt-ons: SRI/CAI, UR pulleys, DC header, RT cat, Hondata reflash, light wheels/tires. Don't have a dyno scan to post, but last pull was 190 whp, 158 wtq, an increase of 32 and 22 resp. from my stock baseline. Last 0-60 was 6.5 sec via G-Tech w/ summer wheels/tires.

Not exactly supercharger territory, but about avg. for bolt-ons.

For any of you thinking you want to do this mod, here's the photo from the internet that I used to locate where the new "Type S" emblem goes and, therefore, where the TSX emblem has to move to. If you have questions, PM me.

The way I did it was to start at the right trunk edge and work left, Type S first, then TSX. Used blue painter's tape stuck to the trunk to help me locate the emblems.

I'm don't really see the appeal of badging or debadging, but I have to say, on your NHBP TSX with the red "S," it looks pretty good.

I'll leave it to others to determine whether or not it's pretentious. If you like it, who cares?

Those are actually very respectable numbers. I'm still not sure when a 6.5 second 0-60 car became slow, but somewhere along the line it did. All I seem to read is how slow the TSX is, but somehow I keep catching the attention of Johnny Law

i think that badge is gonna effect your handling. You're adding more weight to one side of the car, and weight in general is never good for performance

Just letting you know, I installed one of your foglights tilted, so that affects your aerodynamics. Notice a drop in MPG lately?

^ Um, actually, our car is called ACCORD TYPE-S in Europe. Accord EUro R has a K20 and LSD along with many goodies. The ACCORD TYPE-S is actually the closet and most accurate badging for our car...

anyways, I planned to do that once, But unless I HONDA my whole car, I don't think the HONDA badge will ever be on my car until the day I can afford a WHOLE JDM conversion

Not really, the TSX is the Accord 24TL.

The Type S comes with 1/2 leather, 1/2 alcantara seats, the option of Recaros from the EuroR and it also has the EuroR bodykit.

When I had the "TSX" off the trunk lid, I knew that debadging wasn't for me. Not knocking it, it's totally subjective. But it allowed me to envision not having the "Acura" on the other side and it just wasn't for me. The TSX Type S looks terrific on NHB pearl paint.

It's great to hear all the different opinions on here without anyone being over-the-top one way or the other. A great community. If anyone wants help doing this, PM me and I'll help. If not, have fun personalizing your TSX whatever way makes you happy!
