Progress Rear Sway Bar

I removed and sold my CompTech rear sway because I was a bored. The bar is 22mm w/ polyeurathane bushings and has 2 adjustable settings. On paper its the stiffest rear sway out there, the CompTech is 22mm with rubber bushings and Neuspeed is 19mm with Poly. I'm putting it on tonight so I'll have impressions later but here's some pics.

I took a drive around the neighborhood, but I think any useful information will take a long-term review. I don't think I'll be able to compare it to the CompTech until AutoX season next year.

What I can say is thank God I have a thick rear sway bar back on my car, I wanted to cry from using the stock one for 2 weeks. It firms up the rear SO much, especially if you have aftermarket springs. I would say the rear sway should be a mandatory upgrade, its as valuable as my CAI.

does adding thicker sway bar make the ride more harsh? what are the pros and cons for upgrading the sway bar?

Yeah I guess it's somewhat mandatory , I was going to purchase a comtech sway bar by the end of this year, but maybe I'll buy the Progressive.

For most people I think the CompTech is excellent, I really enjoyed mine. The Progress one is stiffer so I wanted to try it out, but the verdict's still out. Both are excellent from what I can tell.

no, not more harsh, it really only comes into affect when turning. a stiffer sway bar will help your car rotate under hard turning by keeping your rear wheels on the ground instead of the inside one lifting. this can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing however, but I don't think the CompTech is too stiff, we'll see about the Progress one.

I agree that the Comptech isn't too "harsh" on your ride. It definately helps on turn-in. The car feels like it will never really plow into a turn again (well, sort of). I am interested in the Progress report (ha ha...progress report). I may think about it if it's not going to make the rear push too much more than the Comptech.

Does the Comptech want to make the rear end step out if you go into the corners TOO hot? I have seen some sways force front drivers to step out REAL easy.

with the stock tires you could get it out easily, not with summer tires from my experience.

thanks xizor for selling me your sway bar. it must have sucked!! i couldn't imagine going back to a stock bar. I noticed the difference as soon as I started driving. i took my car to my own personal test track. there is a road where i work with a couple of 20mph 90 deg turns and my car handles 10 times better. it rolls a lot less. can't wait to get new springs or an aspec kit.

I'm really liking it, I can't say its better/worse than my CompTech but it feels absolutely great when cornering. I'd say either this or the CompTech is a great buy.

I installed my Progress rear sway bar today and drove a few miles in the twisties. I found it hard to believe that this bar could possibly make a noticeable difference, but sure enough, I noticed less body roll in the corners.

The install would have taken less than an hour if the set screw/nut assembly (feel free to chime in with the correct name for this part) on the suspension wasn't rusted to crap. The allen socket in the set screw was so full of rust that it got stripped and I had to nearly destroy the screw with vicegrips just to remove the old bar. I might try to get the dealer to replace the set screws/nuts, but if they arent stainless, they will just rust again.

I think I now want the A-spec springs/shocks. Now that I've tasted what handling upgrades can do, I want more

nope, it doesn't change the geometry of the suspension

have we determined that a aftermarket front sway is not needed?

Xizor,

How thick is the Progress rear sway bar? Comptech is 22mm, Neuspeed is 19mm, I'm guessing the thicker the bar, the better it is in keeping the rear stiff? If so, what is the maximum thickness tolerable in the rear?

22mm is good and it could be stiffer still. the difference between the comptech 22mm and progress is the progress uses polyeurathane bushings compared to comptech's rubber ones. poly bushings are supposed to be stiffer, thus giving more response than rubber ones

Because these bars aren't solid and aren't all made from the same grade of steel we can't make direct comparisons between bars. It's still fairly safe to assume that the thicker the bar the stiffer it will be.

very true, all my assumptions are using what we know. I've had both and can't tell the difference so go figure.

Also, the Progress bar is 3-way adjustable. I have mine set at full stiff, and I like it (do a search, I wrote my impression on the bar last month).

That's a 3-way. You can set it at full soft (using the hole at the end on both sides), full stiff (using the hole near the weld on both sides), and medium (using the hole at the end on one side, and the hole near the weld on the other side). I have a Progress rear sway bar for my Prelude, it has 3 holes on each side, and it's a 5-way adjustable bar.

well you learn something every day. I never thought about using different holes, I guess I assumed using different holes would make one side stiffer than the other... but I guess they're both just pressing against each other.
