New Comptech Heatshield

Looks like Comptech came out with their own IMG

http://www.comptechusa.com/store/product433.html

How do you guys think this compares to the Hondata heatshield?

It says it's 3.4mm thick and transfers less heat than competing gaskets

It's about the same thickness as the Hondata IMG but the material is different.

Is it better or worse material?

I think the Hondata gasket ran for about 60

no way do you need to remove the engine, you just need some dexterious hands and swivel extensions to get at some difficult bolts

when I did a dyno they used a pyrometer and said the difference between the intake manifold and block (seperated by the gasket) was 30F on the outside, so it seemed like it was doing its job

Don't you also need to drain a lot of the fluids? I'm really not into draining engine fluids...

Based on my recent short-shifter install, during which I had half the interior of my car spread out on the garage floor and narrowly averted disaster (only to have this happen to me afterwards), I'm going to lay off the "taking-a-ton-of-stuff-apart" mods.

High-flow cat? No problem, solid gains, six bolts. Oil catch can? Maybe, fairly simple and straightforward. Disassembling entire intake tract and draining coolant (two things fraught with peril) to install a thick plastic gasket? Nope, for me that's tempting the God of One-Too-Many-Turns-Of-The-Screw.

Yeah, I remember you saying that before. I figure it might be worth the effort in the spring. Right now, I just want to enjoy my new car.

Can I bring it to a performance store and ask them to install?? I mean will the installation fee higher than the product itself?

likely, especially since the gasket is cheap

My first time installing the IMG was a little difficult due to lack of space to place a wrench to remove the lower bracket bolt. The top bracket was not too bad if you have a very long extension and a swivel socket. I later found the perfect combo tool to remove the lower bolt. It's a gear wrench with a socket adapter which transforms to a low profile ratchet. The right tools make the job more enjoyable.

I'll agree with that 100%. The right tool makes the difference between a total PITA and a successful job (mod, repair, whatever). I'm sure I'll do the IMG at some point, when I run out of easier mods and I'm sitting around wondering what to do next.

So I'd assume that if I get the TSX S/C kit then it'll come with this upgrade =T There goes my Hondata IMG install plans for this winter.

You can still use the Hondata spacer with the S/C I would imagine. While it comes with a new manifold to fit the blower, the fitment to the block should be the same regardless of that.
