Must have performance mods?

I'm looking to go to a TSX from my 04 4cyl Accord. I'd like to get a bit more performance from the TSX since it's not a huge upgrade power-wise from what I have now.

So far, from what I've read, a Hondata flash and CAI are a few must have upgrades. I'm pretty much a noob to performance mods I'm not looking for anything that makes the vehicle louder, I'd like it to be low key and quiet, if that's possible.

Will a Hondata flash void the warranty?

What exactly does the CAI (and any other mods) do? It sounds obvious, cold air intake, but maybe someone can give a functional description

Umh I will give you the short answer and hopefully someone could clarify it more for you.
From what you have said I think what you really need is Hondata reflash and Comptech ICEBOX not the CAI since that will be too loud for you.
Cold air intake or CAI is simply an intake system that is less restrictive that stock and draws air from a cooler location at the same time by placing the filter behind the fog light.
Therefore a CAI will draws cooler air at a less restrictive path = more power.

The search feature will be your best friend. All that you ask has already been heavily discussed in great detail.

P.S. - An early, soon to be, "Welcome to the club." You're making a good decision.

I will reiterate in saying WELCOME in advance. Anyway you have to ask yourself what are you willing to give up for performance? The only Mod I see that doesn't really have oppurtunity costs to you is the Hondata reflash, just make sure you don't get an 05 AT because we got screwed . Anyway how much power are you looking for? What "feeling" do you want when you drive? Because I can tell you right now the TSX feels a lot better than the 04 4cyl. accord, mainly because we have a higher output on horsepower and more torque. Keep in mind with power you also trade off MPG. Although it is marginal it will be a substantial upgrade in power, and downgrade in MPG.

The Cold Air Intake(InJen,etc.)- trade off- noise. It sounds like a nice controlled Roar, but it can be obtrusive sometimes when you just want to sit back and relax and cruise. It gives you nice gains on the midrange and top end, not much low end torque. More cold air=better, it has to do with air density and temperature the air is to help the performance of your engine. I won't bore you with specifics that was the cliffnotes.

Other option: Comptech ICEBOX, other members testify that it is MUCH quieter and you get more power on the low end, although gains aren't as high you can always convert the ICEBOX to a CAI, so it is a nice compromise, or remove your stock resonator.

Hondata Heatshield- very minimal power gain, but nonetheless everything adds up, it will give you a tiny bump in power.

You can also get a comptech exhaust, if... you don't mind the degree of loudness I have heard clips online it will give you a good idea. It is a little louder than stock, but it is a sexy loud like a g35, but not as outward in terms of audibility.

Headers- you can upgrade the headers and attach it to the stock exhaust, it shouldn't be too much louder and there is less restriction on airflow.

That's all I can think of now. There are probably a lot more options.

Here is the best way. SLAP STICKERS ON YOUR CAR AND GAIN HP!!!!

Convert the Icebox to a CAI?? Excuse my ignorance but I've never heard this.

Maybe he got it mixed up with converting a CAI into a short ram

Intake (Injen or Comptech)
Header (DC sports--read about welds issue or Comptech--big bucks)
Hondata ECU Reflash
UR SS pulleys

That's all N/A power!

Throttle body bypass

A pretty straightforward mod that you can do yourself is the throttle body bypass. Only gets you nominal gains but the bang/buck ratio is pretty good. Here is JTso's writeup: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7917

Oh, and if you are also considering handling mods then upgrading the rear sway bar is a good start.

This is the order I would do it in:
Intake $150 or $200 (Icebox for quiet, Injen/K&N for midrange and loud) or remove resonator for now $0
Rear Sway Bar $105
Throttle body coolant Bypass $10
Hondata $595
Header $300 or DC, $500 for Comptech
Random Tech Hi Flow Cat $295

This was a response I made in a previous thread when a poster requested silent mods. I added some suggestions becuase the SC has been released.

For almost zero noise increase:
Hondata Reflash and just about any Header available
Remove your resonator and keep OEM air box
TB Coolant By Pass Mod from Jtso
Hondata Heatshield

For marginal noise increase:
Add Comptech Ice Box or Mugen Intake
Add Comptech Super Charger

For quite a bit more noise increase:
Any CAI
RT CAT

For most noise increase:
Any exhaust IMO
Another must have mod is the Moda_Way Key Mod. You will be traveling with a few less ounces

You did not ask about handling mods but you have springs/Koni, coilovers, RSB, upper strut, Cusco Type II, lighter wheels, and of course better rubber than the OEM crap.

EDIT
here is the silent but deadly thread

I'd like to look into handling mods too, since my Accord has enough push, I can only imagine what a slightly modded TSX will give. Theres quite a few mods out there, and I'm not entirely looking into spending more than $2000 on the car, or any car for that matter.

first "go" mod: hondata reflash - $595
first "handling" mod: upgrade swaybar - $105 (Comptech)

Go up from there

next "go" mod: Intake - $150 (Icebox)
next "handling" mod - better tires or suspension (various prices)

^ Agree for the most part...

I did it in this order:

Injen CAI ($194 Shipped)

Comptech SS (Only applies to 6MT)

TB Bypass (More like $0.40 if I remember it correctly - you need one connector)

Progress RSB + Cusco Tower Strut + Cusco Type I Bar (~$380, Just doing all at once for ease... would say RSB is the best one to get $140 Shipped from Ptuning I believe, Cusco is avaiable to MrHeelToe)

To come:

Comptech Headers
High Flow CAT
HONDATA
Coilovers
Lightweight Rims / High performance Tires

In my opinion modding gets highly addicting and instead of blowing all your cash at once (unless you can afford it) start spending a little at a time with the easier DIY mods (if you plan to DIY).

Of course with the way I plan on modding my car I'm trying to spend more down the road (bc I graduate and start my career). Also by the time I consider FI hopefully a ECU solution will work by the DBW and allow for possibly a Turbo.. or maybe higher boost pulleys will be out for the CTSC. I feel as if HONDATA should be purchased when K-Pro is out.
