Mugen Grill Mesh Problem HELP!

I just got my mugen grill in the mail and it is unpainted. However the mesh part of the grill is alredy attached to it. I think you need to remove it before you get it painted. Someone please corrected me, did you remove your mesh before you got it painted, or was it okay to leave on?

cause it's a pain in the ass to remove

Thanks for all your help

I received mine earlier this week. It too was unpainted but as of Monday when I pick it up from the paint shop it won't be!

I didn't have a problem removing those little one way anchor washes (no idea what they're called). You just need to be patient and careful. I used a pair of fine tipped alligator nosed pliers and a jewellers screw driver. Where I could access the fingers on the washer through the mesh I used the screw driver to push the fingers up. Then use the pliers to carefully bend and pry the fingers up and away from the plastic stud they're gripping into. Then grip the washer with the pliers and pull and rotate at the same time to get the washer off. You might need to use a bit of force so be very careful to always pull straight so you don't break the stud. Then just get a hammer and any flat object and lightly flatten the washes out again.

When you get your grille back, reinstall the mesh, and push the washes down with a small socket so you're pushing evenly, yet not restricting the fingers. As you're only ever going to do this once it should be fine.

Thats what I did, as when I tried to mask the mesh I found it too much of a fiddle to do properly, and I figure the paint job will be better and more even as a result.

My body shop took it off, painted it, and put it back...

Do they not sell the grill prepainted anymore?
I remember a bunch of us bought ours prepainted from the factory.

Curious as to why so many members don't just buy em painted and save all the trouble

Nope, unfortunately bpt couldn't source a painted grille for CG/GP as Mugen doesn't sell them. Hence unpainted and have to get it painted yourself.

Getting it painted the flat black for the top cross member, and CG/GP for the remainder then clear coated is no biggy anyway at only $60-100. (Will know $$$ exactly tomorrow when I pick mine up)

it comes in every color except CG, I believe because CG wasn't an original color for the Euro-R
